chemistry Program Highlights

Think outside the lab

Today, the science of chemistry is no longer confined to the research laboratory. As we face challenges like climate change and epidemic disease, this field is as relevant as ever. As the basis for all biological and physiological sciences, an understanding of chemistry is vital for understanding our world.

Your coursework will cover core areas of chemistry in lecture courses enhanced by hands-on laboratory work, as well as a research project component. This well-rounded knowledge of chemistry theory and applications can equip you for further study at the graduate level or entry to a number of fields within the natural sciences, medicine and much more.

Internships

The Department of Natural and Physical Sciences partners with businesses and government agencies to place our students in internship positions. In summer terms, we offer many funded research opportunities (REU) to our Bachelor of Science in Chemistry students.

Academic excellence

As a degree in chemistry major, your experience is broad but rigorous. Students in our program are exposed to state-of-the-art instruments at all levels of their training. Our student chapter of the American Chemical Society has won a national award for the past nine years. Since 2007, we have boasted a 97 percent placement (in graduate programs or immediate employment) of our graduates.
