FUZZY REGIONAL SOCCER  PLAYOFF SCENARIOS MADE CLEARER
PARKVILLE, MO--Park University men's and women's soccer programs ended the regular season ranked third in each of the regional ratings.  As a result, neither team is likely to host a game in the NAIA Region V Playoffs beginning November 7.  Each tournament (men's and women's) accepts four teams from the region.

REGION V WOMEN'S SOCCER
For the women, because Park (as the only independent institution in Region V)  is not in the top-two spots in the final regional ranking, the American Midwest Conference Champs (William Woods University) and the Heart of America Athletic Conference Champs (either William Jewell or Lindenwood) will be the top two seeds, and, therefore, will host the first round games.  The third and fourth teams in the tournament are selected according to Longo points (a scoring system based on strength of schedule).

REGION V WOMEN'S SOCCER TOURNAMENT
Wednesday, November 7
Park University vs. William Woods University @ Fulton, Mo. (Time: TBA)
Lindenwood University vs. William Jewell College @ TBA (Time: TBA)

REGION V MEN'S SOCCER
For the men's tournament, even less is certain.  As the conferences complete their playoffs, Park's chances for securing a spot in the Region V playoffs will be clear by Monday.  For now, Park will pull for Columbia College (AMC) and Lindenwood University (HAAC) to win their respective conference championships.  Park finished fourth in the region with 240.79 Longo points.  If an underdog (a team with a lower Longo total than Park) wins either of the conference tournaments, the Pirates would get bumped out of the four-team playoff picture.

Park University women's soccer has enjoyed a 10-2-0 all-time record against the William Woods University Owls.  Including this season's 1-0 overtime win in Fulton, Mo., Park has outscored the Owls 35-9 in twelve matches.  Both of William Woods' wins over Park came during the 1999 season, Park's only losing season in program history.  William Woods beat Park twice that year, winning 4-0 in Fulton, Mo., and 3-0 in Parkville in the first round of the American Midwest Conference playoffs.

The women's basketball game on Saturday, November 10, against York College at 1:00 p.m. features a special halftime shootout event organized by Professor Michael Fitzmorris' class.  Ten winners will have an opportunity to shoot half-court shots for prizes immediately following the first half of action.
