VOLLEYBALLERS
DEPART FOR NATIONAL INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT
PARKVILLE, MO--The Park University
men's volleyball team (13-12) is traveling to their third consecutive
NAIA National Invitational Tournament, April 19-20 in St. Charles,
Mo. Park advanced to the semifinals in the 2001 NAIA Men's
Volleyball NIT before conceding to Marycrest International. This
season, Marycrest International is the single team in the six-team field
that Park defeated during the regular season. The Pirates earned
the third and final at-large bid to gain access to this year's
tournament field. On Friday, Park faces William Woods University
at 9:00 a.m. and Missouri Baptist College at 2:00 p.m. Both
schools participate with Park in the MAMVIC Conference. The NAIA
Men's Volleyball National Invitational Tournament was first held in
1999.

PARK UNIVERSITY
WELCOMES NAIA GUEST SPEAKER BRUCE BROWN
PARKVILLE, MO--On Wednesday, April
24, Park University welcomes a special guest speaker, Bruce Brown, to
campus. On behalf of the National Association of Intercollegiate
Athletics and the current Champions of Character Initiative, Brown will
speak at 11:00 a.m. in the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel. The event is
free and is open to the public.

SPECIAL PRESENTER
BRUCE BROWN
Bruce Brown is an educator who has discovered the importance of
character building in his students and among all walks of life. Having
been the director of ProActive Coaching and now the NAIA Special
Presenter of the "Champions of Character" Initiative, Brown
regularly speaks to athletes, parent groups, coaches and businesses on
the subject of character. He has been employed by the NFL for over 22
years and taught in the public schools in the state of Washington for
over 30 years. He now holds the position of athletics director at
Northwest College in Kirkland, Washington, an NAIA member institution.
He has produced six instructional coaching videos and is also the author
of two coaching books: 101 Drills for Youth Basketball Coaches and
Teaching Character Through Sport.

Singletary sent two homeruns out of a windy Comfort Field Tuesday
afternoon as Park University (21-17-1) picked up a Region V victory
against MidAmerica Nazarene University, 16-6.

PIRATES PICK UP
KEY REGION V WINS OVER WILLIAM WOODS
PARKVILLE, MO--Park University
(20-11-1) picked up two crucial wins in the NAIA Region V playoff hunt
Tuesday afternoon in Parkville against the William Woods University Owls
(20-20) from Fulton, Mo. The Pirates won the first game 3-0, then
held on for a 4-2 win in the second game which was plagued by wind and
intermittent rain. Sophomore right-hander Sherry Faulconer earned
both pitching wins. Park is currently eighth in the NAIA Region V poll;
William Woods is ranked fourth regionally. The top six teams
advance the the Region V Tournament held during the second week of May.

BETHEL QUALIFIES
FOR NATIONALS IN 400M; ATEM CLIMBS TO FIFTH ALL-TIME IN 800M
INDIANOLA, IOWA--Crystal Bethel's
first-place 400-meter dash time of 57.12 seconds was good enough earn a
spot in the NAIA National Championship meet. Mabior Atem's
first-place finish in the 800-meter run moved him to fifth on Park's
all-time leaders list. Atem completed the run in one minute, 54.48

PARK SPLITS
DOUBLEHEADER WITH #21 BELLEVUE
PARKVILLE,
MO--Park University improved to 17-10-1 Friday afternoon, splitting an
afternoon doubleheader with #21 Bellevue University. The Bruins
took the first game, 8-0, snapping Park's nine-game win-streak, the
longest in the six-year history of Park softball. Park won the second
game, 5-1. Freshman outfielder Racheal Stoops and sophomore
pitcher Sherry Faulconer each had two RBIs during Park's five-run fifth
inning. Park University hosts College of St. Mary (Neb.) on Saturday for
a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
