FAULCONER REPRESENTS PARK SOFTBALL ON ALL-REGION TEAM
SPRINGFIELD, MO--Sherry Faulconer, a sophomore right-handed pitcher for the Park University softball team, has been named to the NAIA Region V Second Team for the 2002 season.  The honor was announced Thursday afternoon following the conclusion of the Region V tournament in Springfield, Mo. 
    A two-year letterwinner in the program, Faulconer finished the season with an 18-8 record, garnering pitching wins in eighteen out of Park's twenty-one team wins this season.  Faulconer also earned the first perfect game in Park University softball history and went on to earn NAIA National Player of the Week honors.  The native of Grain Valley, Mo., batted .342 and led the team with nine doubles and two homeruns.  Park University won fourteen out of the final seventeen games this season.

FOUR PIRATES DISTINGUISHED AS ARTHUR ASHE JR. SPORTS SCHOLARS FOR 2002
PARKVILLE, MO--Four Park University student-athletes were distinguished in the April 2002 edition of Black Issues in Higher Education as 2002 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars.  This was the tenth annual disbursement of the honors; Park University student-athletes have been among those selected for the last four years.  
   Dave Foster, a junior forward from Kingston, Jamaica, was named to the First Team for men's soccer.  Foster is majoring in Computer Science at Park.  Foster's teammate, senior John Eugene Wah, a midfielder from Monrovia, Liberia, was a Second Team selection.  Wah will graduate from Park University Saturday with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration.
   In women's basketball, Priscilla Torto, a sophomore forward from Harare, Zimbabwe, was named to the Second Team.  Torto is majoring in Computer Science at Park.  Junior biology major Crystal Bethel, a sprinter from Nassau, Bahamas, was named to the Second Team for Track and Field. 
   The Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards salute student-athletes of color who maintain at least a 3.3 grade point average and make a formidable contribution to their athletic program.

OPEN BASEBALL TRY-OUTS SET FOR MAY 19

PARKVILLE, MO--Head coach Dan Backhaus will conduct open tryouts for the 2002-2003 baseball team on Sunday, May 19, at 1:00 p.m.  Try-outs are open to anyone interested in participating in intercollegiate baseball at Park University.  For more information, contact Dan Backhaus at (816) 584-6746 or at dbackhaus@park.edu. Try-outs will be held on Comfort Field located on Sixth Street in Parkville.
