ERIC ONGAO REPRESENTS PARK AS MCAC PLAYER OF THE
WEEK FOR MEN'S SOCCER
WICHITA, KAN.--The MCAC has recognized Park University sophomore Eric
Ongao as the Offensive Player of the Week for men's soccer following his
two-goal effort against #14 Hastings College. Ongao,
a midfielder, is from Nairobi, Kenya. Visit the men's
soccer web page to view a video clip of Ongao's first goal during
Friday's match with Hastings. Park University men's and women's
soccer programs host the Tabor College Blue Jays Friday in a doubleheader
at Park's Julian Field. Those matches kick-off at 5 and 7
p.m.

HEADERS SPARK PIRATES PAST ST. MARY COLLEGE
LEAVENWORTH, KAN.--Sophomores Eric Ongao and Darnell Ross headed-in goals in the
first half as Park University (2-0-0) went on to defeat the defending KCAC
Champion St. Mary College Spires (1-2-0), 4-0, in Leavenworth, Kan., Wednesday
afternoon. Ongao's goal was set up on a corner kick sent in by Siemon
Mulama; Ross's header was assisted by Dave Foster. Foster gave Park the
3-0 advantage, scoring on a pass from Magnus Gunnarson just before halftime.
In the second half,
Mulama scored the final goal, assisted by Enock Odede. Keeper Scott Woods
earned the shutout for Park. The Pirates outshot St. Mary College,
16-6.

Women's Volleyball Results
PIRATES STRUGGLE IN MCAC SEASON OPENER
PARKVILLE, MO--Park's inauguration into NAIA Region IV and
the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference was spoiled Tuesday night by the
Haskell Indian Nations University Fighting Indians from Lawrence, Kan.
Haskell (2-3, 1-0) defeated Park (0-1, 0-1), 3-0 (30-23, 30-18, 32-30). It
was the first win for Haskell in the three seasons the schools have
played. Park leads the all-time series, 3-1. Park women's volleyball
competes in the Mazio's Tournament hosted by College of the Ozarks in Point
Lookout, Mo., this weekend.

ONGAO ON-GOAL!
SOPHOMORE MIDFIELDER NETS TWO AS PIRATES CHECK #14 HASTINGS
PARKVILLE, MO--Sophomore midfielder Eric Ongao netted two goals as Park
University (1-0-0) defeated #14 Hastings College (2-1-0), 2-1, in front of
nearly 200 fans at Julian Field. In the first half, Ongao scored a penalty
kick. He gave Park a 2-0 lead off a corner kick set up by freshman Ross
Stride.
Down 2-0,
Hastings College, the defending Region IV Champions, rallied late in the second
half when Nick Krueger scored with six minutes left in the match. Scott
Woods earned the win in goal for Park with seven saves.

Women's Soccer Results
PIRATES BUCK BRONCOS WITH TWO EARLY
GOALS, WIN 5-1
PARKVILLE, MO--In their season opener, Park University's
(1-0-0) forward combination of Pam Bedzrah and Tunde Nemeth took over the match
early. Bedzrah, a junior from London, England scored in the fifth minute;
Nemeth made the score 2-0 in the eighteenth minute. Each assisted the
other in the early flurry.
In the second
half, Hastings (0-1-0) forward Jackie Ellingson coasted through Park's defense,
delivering a goal that brought the Broncos within one at 2-1. Bedzrah
scored another goal just three minutes later before freshman Kesiann Francis
added goals four and five for Park. Senior Jennifer Greco assisted
Francis' final goal.
"This whole
game was about playing new positions," said head coach Scott Bowen.
" We were getting used to it and we had a few defensive lapses when we
weren't organized back there."
In the end, senior Jenni
Visala recorded the one-goal victory for Park, turning away seven shots on goal
by the Broncos. In their next match, Park will host Tabor College on
Friday, September 6, at 5:00 p.m.
