BOWLING GREEN, KY.--Cold temperatures and a pair of goals
by Lindsey Wilson College, four-time defending NAIA National Champions and
winners of six out of the last seven title banners, had head coach Efrem Shimlis
and his odds-busting team feeling a bit chilly Monday night in the NAIA National
Championship Semifinals at Lover's Lane Soccer Complex in Bowling Green, Ky.
With less than twenty-three minutes remaining, sophomore Chris Lisaka warmed
Park's chances, scoring on a pass from Region IV Offensive Player of the Year
Siemon Mulama. With the margin narrowed at 2-1, Park's Mekete Gashaw
evened the score with a goal at 83:58; assists came from Henok Belayneh and
Lisaka on the play. After two scoreless overtime periods, Park's Eric
Ongao scored the game-winning penalty kick; Ongao scored the game-winning
penalty kick in Park's 1-0 quarterfinal win against Rio Grande (Ohio) Saturday.
Park advances for a chance at the National Title for the first time in the men's
soccer program's history and the second time ever in any sport. The
sixth-seeded Pirates play the fifth-seeded University of Mobile (Ala.) Rams
(16-4-1), Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
