MCAC COACHES PREDICT PARK TO FINISH SIXTH IN 2003 BASEBALL RACE
WICHITA, KAN--
In MCAC Baseball, Bellevue University tops the pre-season coaches’ poll with all the first place votes, Peru State College and Newman University tie for 2nd place in the poll. College of the Ozarks and York College place 4rd and 5th respectively while Park University, Oklahoma Wesleyan University and Central Christian College finish out the coaches' rankings in that order.   

Tuesday, February 4, 2003Freshman forward Megan Anderson (45) scored two of her 20 points in Park's 63-54 win against #12 Brescia University.  Anderson scored on 9-of-15 field goal attempts.

EXPERIENCE, HOT HANDS CARRY PARK PAST #12 BRESCIA
PARKVILLE, MO--Park University (6-19) led throughout the game and sealed the win with  free throws in the final minutes to secure a 63-54 home win against the #12 Brescia University Bearcats (16-8).  It was Park's first win against a nationally ranked opponent this season.  Junior guard Misty Fenwick paced Brescia with 13 points and six rebounds.  For Park, freshman Megan Anderson scored 20 points to go with six rebounds and five blocked shots.  Dorothy Haughton contributed 12 points for Park; Tenysha Brown put in 11 points.  Senior guard Glenda Grant had eight points and eight assists; she and junior Miah Ingersoll worked the ball through the Bearcat pressure which forced 28 turnovers by night's end.  Park outrebounded Brescia, 44-38.

#11 JETS SET PARK BACK, 95-77
WICHITA, KAN--Newman University's Brad Goertz scored 28 points and teammate Cortland Carney put up 20 points and seven rebounds as the #11 Jets defeated Park University (10-13), 95-77, in Wichita, Kan., Tuesday evening.  Kelly Kindall scored 24 points for Park; junior forward Jason Baugh added 20 points.  Park hosts Hannibal-LaGrange College (8-14) at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.

Women's Basketball Results

HAUGHTON GIVES PARK DOUBLE-DOUBLE TO SINK MISSOURI VALLEY, 74-44
PARKVILLE, MO--Park University (5-19) snapped a seven-game skid and sank the Missouri Valley College Lady Missouri Valley CollegePark UniversityVikings to 0-24 with Saturday's 74-44 win at home.  Senior guard Dorothy Haughton led all players with 26 points and 12 rebounds.  Miah Ingersoll chipped in 11 points and five rebounds; senior guard Glenda Grant added nine points and five assists.  For Missouri Valley, Sara LeDuc led the team with 12 points.  Park held Mo. Valley to 16-of-64 (25%) from the floor.  The Pirates host Brescia University on Tuesday afternoon at 5:00 p.m.

JUMPERS MEET MARKS FOR NATIONAL QUALIFICATION AT JAYHAWK INVITATIONALDenzel Williams
LAWRENCE, KAN.--Park University jumpers Jelena Tasic (women's long jump) and Denzel Williams (men's high jump) recorded results that will send them to the NAIA National Championship meet in Johnson City, Tenn., early next month.  Tasic, already a qualifier in the triple jump, reached a distance of 18 feet, six inches.  Denzel Williams, a senior from North Kansas City, Mo., took first place with a jump of six feet, eight inches.

MCAC COACHES REGISTER PRESEASON POLL; PARK UNIVERSITY RANKS FOURTH
WICHITA, KAN--Softball coaches in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference registered their preseason votes this week for the 2003 season.  Bellevue University tops the pre-season coaches’ poll with all but one of the first place votes; Newman University follows with one first place vote. College of Saint Mary and Park University place 3rd and 4th respectively, while York College, Haskell Indian Nations University, Peru State College, Oklahoma Wesleyan University and Central Christian College finish out the ranking in that order.

HANNIBAL-LAGRANGE SENDS PARK HOME WITH SEVENTH CONSECUTIVE LOSSHannibal-LaGrange College (Mo.)Park University
HANNIBAL, MO--Hannibal-LaGrange College grabbed a 35-18 lead by halftime and went on to defeat Park University (4-19), 71-50 Thursday evening.  Dorothy Haughton had 17 points for Park; Glenda Grant added nine points.  Ashley Spratt paced the Lady Trojans with 15 points.  Saturday afternoon Park hosts Missouri Valley College (0-23); the game will tip-off at 3:00 p.m.  Missouri Valley lost at Culver-Stockton College on Thursday, 60-35.

HARVESTERS FOOD DRIVE, KPRS HOT 103.3 JAMZ LIVE REMOTE AMONG ACTIVITIES SLOTTED FOR FEBRUARY 15 BASKETBALL GAME
PARKVILLE, MO--On February 15, 2003, the Park University men's basketball team hosts the Morningside College Mustangs for a 2:00 p.m. contest in the Breckon Sports Center on the Parkville campus.  Park University Athletics is sponsoring a Harvesters food drive in conjunction with the event.  CannedJoin the Park University Athletics-Harvesters food drive on February 15! goods or other non-perishable food items will be accepted at the gate for admission; all goods will then be donated to the Kansas City-based Harvesters charity.  Canned goods may be purchased at the gate for the price of regular adult admission--$3.00.  All proceeds will be donated to Harvesters.  No free passes will be granted that day to ensure a hearty collection for Harvesters, a group committed to combating hunger in Kansas City and the surrounding communities. 
     In coordination with University Advancement, KPRS Hot 103 Jamz will be airing a live radio remote for one hour before the game.  At halftime, area youth basketball players will scrimmage. For more information or to involve your group in this or other athletics activities, contact Derek Mueller at (816) 584-6490.
