2003 Baseball Preview
HOTTEST BATS IN NAIA BASEBALL RETURN TO ACTION THIS
WEEKEND
PARKVILLE, MO--Weather permitting; Park University, the national team-hitting
leader in 2002, will open the 2003 baseball season this weekend. Park has
doubleheaders scheduled for Saturday, February 15, at William Jewell College and
Monday, February 17, at Ottawa University.
Unlike the teams of the past three seasons, the 2003 Pirates will
compete for a conference championship in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic
Conference (MCAC). In the past two seasons, Park played an independent
schedule, making it considerably more difficult to vie for a post-season playoff
bid. In three years, the program has a cumulative record of 70-58-1 (.543),
with just one playoff appearance during the inaugural 2000 season. Interim head
coach Cary Lundy has clear plans to return to post-season play, challenging
league contenders Bellevue (Neb.) (#4 in NAIA Preseason National Poll), Newman
(Kan.), Peru State (Neb.) and College of the Ozarks (Mo.) for a conference title
and Region IV playoff slot. |
