MORGAN'S GAME-WINNING
HOMER GROWS PARK'S STREAK TO SIX
SPRINGFIELD, MO--In the second day of head-to-head action
between Park University (6-4) and Evangel University (4-11), Park junior
Andy Morgan drove out a game-winning homerun in the top of the seventh
inning to help the Pirates secure the 5-4 win in the first game of the
doubleheader. Joe Barbosa (1-1) got the pitching win, closing out
the final one and two-thirds innings with five consecutive strikeouts.
In the second game, Park defeated Evangel, 7-1. Senior Brett Rymer
(1-1) went the distance for Park. Ben Weber, drove in a homerun to
finish the afternoon series hitting 4-for-7 (.571) with four RBI. In
the 7-1 win, Ryan Kiedrowski was 3-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases;
freshman Aaron Courter was 2-for-4 with a triple. Barbosa went a
perfect 4-for-4 as the designated hitter. With the four-game sweep of
Evangel, Park's winning streak grew to six games.

Men's Basketball News
KINDALL SELECTED FIRST-TEAM ALL-INDEPENDENT
REGION; THREE OTHERS EARN HONORABLE MENTION
WILBERFORCE, OHIO--By vote of coaches at the seven NAIA Division I
Independent institutions, the All-Region team was selected and released
Tuesday. Senior Kelly Kindall, a 5-9 guard from Fordland, Mo.,
represented Park as a First Team selection. Kindall led Park in
scoring this season with 456 points (15.7 ppg). He was distinguished
as an honorable mention selection last season. Sophomore guards Chip
Weber and Chuck Reed were joined by junior guard Anthony Styles as
honorable mention selections this season. Park, the sixth seed in
this year's Independent Regional Tournament, faces #3 Spalding University
(Ky.) in Louisville, Ky., on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The winner
advances to play #2 seed Brescia University (Ky.) in the semi-final round
on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

to 4-4 against Evangel University (4-9). Stephen Kent was 3-for-4
(.750) in the first game of the doubleheader; freshmen Dusty Hylton
(2-for-3) and Aaron Courter (1-for-3) combined for three RBI. In the
second game, catcher Hank Edwards lifted Park with a two-run homer.
Second baseman Andy Morgan also hit 2-for-3 (.667) as Park won 5-2.
The Pirates and Evangel will play another doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
Wednesday.

BETHEL WINS 600-METER OUTRIGHT; THREE
ALL-AMERICANS RETURN FROM TENNESSEE
JOHNSON CITY, TENN.--The Park University indoor track and field team
produced three NAIA All-Americans and one National Champion over the
weekend. Junior Crystal Bethel finished first in the 600-meter run,
setting a school record with a time of one minute, 32.63 seconds.
She was joined by teammates Jelena Tasic (4th in women's long jump -
18’4.5”; 5th in women's
triple jump - 38’2”) and Mabior Atem (4th in men's one mile run - 4:16.34;
6th in men's 3,000-meter - 8:35.38), who also achieved NAIA All-American
status at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships. Tasic's
marks also set new records at Park University. As a team, Park's women
finished 14th (16 points) out of 116 teams; the men finished 35th (5
points) out of 112 teams.

REED, PIRATES SHINE BRIGHTER THAN OCU STARS IN
SENIOR DAY WIN
PARKVILLE, MO--In a game where Park University bade farewell to seniors
Kelly Kindall and Shannon Thomas, sophomore Chuck Reed poured in 26 points
as the Pirates (14-15) toppled Oklahoma City University (16-10), 76-59.
It was Park's first win in six head-to-head games against the Stars in
head coach Claude English's eleven-year tenure at Park. The game was
knotted, 30-30, at halftime.
A four-year starter, Kindall scored 14 points in the
regular season finale, bringing his career cumulative total to 1,212
points. He also had seven assists, which boosts his career total to
368. Thomas, a two-year starter in the program, closed out the night
with six points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots. He has been
the team's leading rebounder in each of the last two seasons, while
accumulating 78 blocked shots in his two years at Park.
Junior Anthony Styles (12 points) and sophomore Chip
Weber (10 points) also scored in double-figures for the Pirates who will
learn about their first-round NAIA Men's Division I Tournament matchup on
Sunday. The tournament begins March 14 in Louisville, Ky.
For Oklahoma City University, Gino Chambers led the way
with 18 points, followed by Jimmy Lawson with 13 points. |

Men's Volleyball Results
PARK EXCELS IN WIN AGAINST FIRST-YEAR BOBCATS
PARKVILLE, MO--In an exhibition match, Park University defeated the Peru
State College Bobcats (5-13, 0-4) in men's volleyball action Thursday
night, 3-0 (30-22, 30-20, 30-23). Now in their first season,
 Peru
State is competing as a provisional member in the MAMVIC Conference; the
match does not count for Park University's overall record this season.
Mladen Bundalo led the way with nine kills and two service aces.
Skye Gosewisch added eight kills, eight digs and four service aces.
Marco Aurelio, Kelvin Bush and Walker Swan each contributed seven kills.
It was Park's final match before Spring Break, which
lasts from March 8-16. The Pirates will play four matches in the Chicago,
Ill., area next week.

PARK WOMEN END SEASON IN FIRST ROUND OF
INDEPENDENT TOURNAMENT
OWENSBORO, KY.--Park University (9-22) got off to a slow start and trailed
by 14 points at halftime, as fifth-seed Spalding University punctuated the
Pirates' season Thursday night, 77-58. Senior Dorothy Haughton led
Park with 13 points and eight rebounds. Glenda Grant and Priscilla
Torto each added 12 points.
