Softball Results
PARK SWEPT BY CENTRAL MISSOURI
STATE; FAGAN NOTCHES HOMERUN
PARKVILLE, MO--LaJeana Fagan's solo homerun blast in the first game was
the
 brightest
offensive spark in an otherwise uphill outing against NCAA Division II
opponent Central Missouri State University (12-11). The Pirates
(5-9) were defeated by the Jennies, 10-2 and 6-2. Park never led in
either contest. The Pirates begin their MCAC schedule this weekend
with games at Newman on Friday, and at home against Oklahoma Wesleyan and
York on Saturday and Sunday.

Outdoor Track & Field Preview
OUTDOOR SEASON BEGINS SATURDAY AT JOHNSON COUNTY
PARKVILLE, MO--The Park University
men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams will spring into action
this weekend in Overland Park, Kan., at Johnson County Community College.
Head coach Brian Renshaw looks for his teams to build on the successes of
the indoor season, which culminated earlier this month at the NAIA
National Championships in Johnson City, Tenn. Park’s women’s team,
represented by Crystal Bethell and Jelena Tasic, finished 14th
overall with 16 points; the men, represented by Mabior Atem, finished 35th
overall with 5 points. |

MAMVIC Player of the Week
PIRATES SCALE TO #2 IN THE NATION; AJANAKO NAMED
PLAYER OF THE WEEK IN MAMVIC CONFERENCE
PARKVILLE, MO--Freshman outside hitter Seidu Ajanako has been named
Player of the Week in the MAMVIC Conference; he led Park's men's volleyball team
to a 3-1 week, helping the Pirates climb from #5 to #2 nationally.
Originally from Accra, Ghana, Ajanako averaged 5.59 kills per game with a .400
hitting percentage. He also contributed an average of .85 blocks, 1.69
digs and .23 service aces in 13 games this week as Park went 3-1 and improved to
18-4 overall.

MCAC, Region IV Pitcher of the Week
PARK'S JOE PICKETT DISTINGUISHED AS PITCHER OF THE WEEK IN THE MCAC AND REGION

WICHITA, KAN--Joe Pickett of
Park University has been named Pitcher of the
Week in the MCAC Conference, after
delivering a complete game,
three-hit shutout in Park’s 5-0 win against Region IV opponent St. Mary College.
He was also chosen as NAIA Region IV Pitcher of the Week for his efforts
He struck out eight batters in the effort. Pickett, a junior, right-handed
pitcher from Blue Springs, Mo., improved to 3-0 this season with a team-leading
0.93 ERA. Park University is 11-7 overall for the season.

PARK SADDLES BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS WITH SEVEN
HOMERUNS, INCLUDING PAIR OF GRAND SLAMS; SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER
BALDWIN CITY, KAN--Park University (11-7) enjoyed seven homeruns, including
grand slams by R.J. Nab and Ben Weber as the Pirates defeated
Baker
University 13-3 and 12-0
in
Baldwin City, Kan., Sunday afternoon. Freshman Aaron Courter led Park in
the first game with a 2-for-3 (.667) effort at the plate; one of his hits was a
double. In the fourth inning, Park registered twelve runs. R.J. Nab
drove in four of those runs with a grand slam; Stephen Kent, Hank Edwards and
Joe Barbosa also hit back-to-back-to-back homeruns in the inning. In the
second game, pitcher Jeff Holz threw a complete game, two-hit shutout, striking
out five batters out of 22 faced. Run support came from home runs by
Edwards and Andy Morgan. Ben Weber also had a grand slam in the top of the
sixth. Stephen Kent finished the game 3-for-4 (.750) with an RBI.
Weber, Nab and Ryan Kiedrowski each had two hits in the game. Park begins
its MCAC conference season on Friday with a doubleheader at Bellevue
University.

Softball Results
EAGLES SOAR PAST PARK IN HOME
DOUBLEHEADER
PARKVILLE, MO--Sporadic hitting left Park (5-7) searching for runs in both
games of Sunday's doubleheader against the Avila University Eagles (5-2-1).
Freshmen Ashley Rich and Brooke Woolery each
 hit 2-for-3 (.667) in the first
game--a 3-2 loss to the Eagles. Rich had a double, an RBI, and one stolen
base; her double scored Woolery in the fifth inning. The Pirates jumped
ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the third in the second game. Woolery, Bridget
Duhme and Racheal Stoops each had doubles in the inning. Tiffany Bears
went 2-for-4 (.500) in the game. Park was defeated, 8-4. The Pirates
travel to Warrensburg, Mo., for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 26.

Softball Results
PARK LEVELS SIOUX FALLS (S.D.) AND WILLIAM PENN TO
REACH .500; FINISHES 4-1 IN DANA TOURNAMENT
BLAIR, NEB--Park University (5-5) reached .500 for the first time this
season after rolling through the final two games of the Dana College Tournament
in Blair, Neb. Park defeated Sioux Falls (S.D.) and William Penn (Iowa) on
Saturday. Sherry Faulconer earned the pitching win as Park defeated Sioux
Falls, 5-1. LaJeana Fagan led the Pirates, going 2-for-3 (.667) with two
stolen bases and an RBI. Tiffany Bears was 2-for-2 (1.00); she added an
RBI and a sacrifice bunt. Freshman Jennifer Eickhoff improved to 3-1 this season
after pitching Park to a 3-2 win against William Penn (Iowa). Catcher
Trista Tomasek was 3-for-3 (1.00) at the plate with a pair of singles, one
double, and one RBI. Park hosts Avila University Sunday; the first game of
the doubleheader will start at 2:00 p.m.

Men's Volleyball Results
PARK YIELDS TO LINDENWOOD IN RAMADA INN CLASSIC
CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH 
PARKVILLE, MO--The Lindenwood University Lions (23-6) spoiled Park
University's (18-4) run through the 2003 Ramada Inn Men's Volleyball
Classic Tournament field with a 3-0 shutout in the championship match.
Lindenwood won 30-28, 30-24, and 30-28. Both teams defeated
top-ranked California Baptist earlier Saturday. Park University's
Seidu Ajanako was chosen as tournament MVP in a coaches' vote; he led the
Pirates with 16 kills. Gustavo Rocha made 42 assists for Park. The
Pirates struggled to apply service pressure throughout the match; digs and
blocks were spare in Park's effort to counter Lindenwood's net attack
waged by All-Tournament team members Andrew Mack and Mike Hickman.
Rocha and Fabricio Teixeira were also selected for the All-Tournament
team. Teixeira recorded 12 kills in the final match; Marco Aurelio
added ten kills.

Men's Volleyball Results
#1 LANCERS TUMBLE TO SPIRITED PARK
SQUAD, 3-0
PARKVILLE, MO—Park University (18-3) leapt to an early lead
and persisted through three games to shock the California Baptist
University Lancers (17-4), 3-0, Saturday morning. Park defeated the
Lancers, currently the top-ranked team in the nation in NAIA men's
volleyball, 30-26, 30-21, and 30-24. Seidu Ajanako, a freshman from
Accra, Ghana, led the Pirates with 12 kills; he hit .631 in the match.
Marco Aurelio (.615) and Fabricio Teixeira (.800) each added eight kills
for Park. Gustavo Rocha made 40 assists. Skye Gosewisch scored
seven digs; Eduardo Collier added six. Park extended its winning
streak to seven matches; the Pirates face #3 Lindenwood University at 4:00
p.m.

Men's Volleyball Results
POOL PLAY ENDS WITH PARK UNIVERSITY,
LINDENWOOD AND CALIFORNIA BAPTIST ON TOP; SCHEDULES SET FOR SATURDAY
PARKVILLE, MO—The top-seeded teams in each of the three
pools finished on top after one day of action in the 2003 Ramada Inn-Park
University Men’s Volleyball Classic Tournament. The nine team tournament
will resume Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m.
Top-finishers
#5 Park University and #1California Baptist will play at 11:00 a.m.;
California Baptist will face #3 Lindenwood at 1:30 p.m., and then Park will face
Lindenwood at 4:00 p.m.
Earlier in the day, Park defeated Providence College
(Manitoba), 3-0. In the 7:00 p.m. match, Park faced Trinity
Christian. Seidu Ajanako led the Pirates to a 3-0 win with 17 kills
and five blocks. Freshman setter Wilfredo Ponce has 41 assists;
Walker Swan, a 6-7 freshman from Norfolk, Neb., recorded seven kills in
the win. Park narrowly defeated Trinity Christian, 3-2, five days
ago in Palos Heights, Ill.

Softball Results
PIRATES GO 2-1 ON FIRST DAY OF DANA TOURNAMENT
BLAIR, NEB--Park University (3-5) and Northwestern College (Iowa) were
knotted through eight innings early Friday before Park broke the tie with
a run in the top of the ninth inning. Park defeated the Red Raiders,
6-5. The Pirates went on to defeat Mayville State (N.D.), 11-5,
before falling to Huron (S.D.), 10-0, to end the day 2-1. In the win
against Mayville State (N.D.), sophomore Racheal Stoops delivered an
inside-the-park homerun.
