MCAC BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL PLAYOFFS START TODAY IN OMAHA
PARKVILLE, MO--The Park University baseball and softball programs will be in Omaha today to begin the chase for a postseason conference title and a chance at a Region IV playoff spot.  The softball team (16-17, 10-5) enters the MCAC tournament as the #4 seed; they will play the #1 seed, College of St. Mary Flames, at 10:00 a.m. in Omaha.  The baseball team (29-14, 18-6) enters the tournament as the #3 seed.  They will play #2 Newman University at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon in Bellevue, Neb.

Champions of Character Initiative
TRACK & FIELD TEAMS TO VOLUNTEER AT MID-AMERICA GAMES THIS WEEKEND

PARKVILLE, MO--Park University student-athletes from the men's and women's track & field programs are volunteering this weekend in support of the Mid-America Games for the Disabled; it is the second year head coach Brian Renshaw and his teams have supported the event as part of the NAIA's Champions of Character initiative.  The games, which include track events and bowling, convene on Friday, May 2, at Bishop Miege High School in Shawnee Mission, Kan.; a Parade of Champions, torch lighting and welcome speech will take place on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. For more information on the events or to learn how to volunteer at the games, visit www.midamericagames.com.

PARK'S AJANAKO NAMED NATIONAL TOURNAMENT MVP; ROCHA NETS ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM SPOT
DAVENPORT, IOWA--Seidu Ajanako, a 6-4 outside hitter for Park University's national champion men's volleyball program, was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament this weekend.  A freshman from Accra, Ghana, Ajanako was alto the tournament's kill leader, averaging 5.45 kills per game in the fourteen games played on Friday and Saturday.  Teammate Gustavo Rocha, a junior setter from Goiania, Brazil, was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

NAIA Champions of Character InitiativePark University women's volleyball

PIRATE SPIKERS GIVE TIME TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY, CHARACTER INITIATIVE
PARKVILLE, MO--The Park University women's volleyball team and head coach Peggy Tuter spent April 5 working with the Northland Habitat for Humanity on an area development.  Team members laid down flooring and framed in walls on four homes.  The Northland Habitat for Humanity is pursuing the completion of ten houses by Father's Day.  The activity brought the total NAIA Champions of Character activities involving the team to four this year, including a Harvesters food drive at home matches in October, a donation of goods to a charity in North Dakota, and a campus blood drive.

PARK UNIVERSITY SWEEPS MISSOURI BAPTIST TO BRING HOME NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
DAVENPORT, IOWA--
The Park University Pirates (28-5) celebrated a straight-game sweep of the #3 Missouri Baptist College Spartans to bring home the 2003 Tachikara/NAIA National Championship in men's volleyball Saturday night.  It was the first national title in any sport throughout Park's history.  The Pirates defeated the Spartans, 3-0 (30-27, 30-23, 30-26), defeating Missouri Baptist for the second time in two days.  Park also downed the Spartans during Friday's pool play round.  Missouri Baptist reached the final by upsetting #2 California Baptist; the Spartans came from behind to surprise the Lancers, 3-2 (20-30, 24-30, 30-27, 34-32, 15-8).  Slide Show | Download times will vary.

PARK EVADES LINDENWOOD, SAILS INTO CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
DAVENPORT, IOWA--
Park University (27-5) shed a season-long albatross Saturday morning, defeating the #4 Lindenwood University Lions for the first time in four attempts this season.  In their first three meetings of the season, Lindenwood was 3-0, winning nine out of ten games versus Park.  In Saturday's NAIA National Semifinal match, Park advanced, 3-2 (22-30, 30-28, 20-30, 30-23, 15-10). The Pirates will face the winner of #2 California Baptist and #4 Missouri Baptist at 7:00 p.m. tonight.

PARK CAPS REGULAR SEASON WITH WINS, HEADS INTO MCAC PLAYOFFS Ryan Kiedrowski
BARTLESVILLE, OKLA.--Park University (29-14, 18-6) gritted out a pair of key wins in the MCAC Saturday afternoon, edging out Oklahoma Wesleyan University, 5-1 and 6-5, to complete the four-game sweep of the Eagles.  In the first game, Jeff Holz (6-2) picked up the win; Joe Barbosa (6-1) threw for the win in the second game.  Freshman Aaron Couter and senior Ryan Kiedrowski each had two stolen bases and one RBI in the first game.  Kiedrowski was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base in the second game.  He drove in the game-winning run with a single in the top of the seventh.  Courter and R.J. Nab each scored two runs in the second game.

ATEM, BETHEL TAKE MORE FIRST PLACE FINISHES
KANSAS CITY, MO--Juniors Mabior Atem and Crystal Bethel continue to lead the field in their respective events.  Atem won the men's 800-meter (15:01.51) at the UMKC Invitational in Kansas City on Saturday; Bethel took first in the women's 400-meter (56.08).

PIRATES PLAY THROUGH WET CONDITIONS; TAKE TWO FROM OKLAHOMA WESLEYANPark UniversityOklahoma Wesleyan University
BARTLESVILLE, OKLA.--Pitchers Joe Pickett (6-1) and Brett Rymer (5-4) each held Oklahoma Wesleyan University to one run in Park's doubleheader sweep of the Eagles.  Park (27-14, 16-6) defeated the Eagles, 3-1 and 4-1 despite wet field conditions.  Andy Morgan had two hits and two stolen bases in the opener; he also scored all three of Park's runs.  Senior shortstop Ryan Kiedrowski also had two hits and two stolen bases.  In the second game, Kiedrowski went 2-for-3.  In the top of the fifth inning, he delivered a single with the bases loaded to score Park's first run.  Senior Joe Barbosa followed up with a single to plate Park's second run, before Ben Weber smacked a two-run double to cap Park's scoring.  The Pirates face the Eagles again on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

PIRATES CRUISE PAST ST. AMBROSE IN OPENER
DAVENPORT, IOWA--The #1 seeded Park University Pirates defeated the #6 St. Ambrose Fighting Bees, 3-0, in the 11:00 a.m. matchup in Pool A of the Tachikara/NAIA Men's Volleyball National Invitational Tournament. Park won, 30-17, 30-14, 30-20. St. Ambrose faces #3 Missouri Baptist at 3:00 p.m. today in the second session.  Park faces Missouri Baptist at 7:00 p.m. tonight in the third session.
