BETHEL AND FOSTER NAMED PARK UNIVERSITY
STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE YEAR 
PARKVILLE, MO--Junior Crystal Bethel and senior Dave Foster have been named
Student-Athletes of the Year at Park University. Bethel, a runner from
Nassau, Bahamas in the women's cross country and track programs, is studying
chemistry and criminal justice. She has been named NAIA All-American three
times. In the fall of 2002, she was named NAIA All-America
Scholar-Athlete. She has been selected as an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports
Scholar for the last two years.
Dave Foster, a three-time NAIA All-America
Scholar-Athlete, graduated in December with a degree in Computer Based
Information Systems, after contributing 11 goals and five assists in Park's
21-2-2 men's soccer season. A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Foster was
named NAIA Honorable Mention All-American in 2002.
The nominees for Student-Athlete of the Year honors at
Park University must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA and make an exceptional
contribution to the campus community through leadership and scholarship.

MERIWEATHER SIGNS KEY RECRUITS FOR
2003-2004 SEASON
 
PARKVILLE, MO--Head coach Joe C. Meriweather has signed five players for the
2003-2004 women's basketball season, adding both size and experience to a core
of returners. LaTasha Johnson, a 6-1 forward from Seminole
Community College, will join the Pirates for the upcoming season. Johnson
was distinguished as FCCAA Mid-Florida Conference Freshman of the Year last
season, contributing 10.6 ppg and 6.9 rpg. A 2002 graduate of Cypress
Creek High School, Johnson averaged 19.1 ppg during her senior year, while being
honored on the Florida All-State Third Team and the All-Orlando County Team.
Forward Randi Johnson will attend Park for her
junior year, following two seasons with coach Marcus Harvey at Penn Valley
Community College. A 2001 graduate of Washington High School in Kansas
City, Kan., the 6-0 forward will shore up the Pirates' front line along with
LaTasha Johnson, and returners Megan Anderson and Tenysha Brown.
Markesha Addison, a 5-5 guard from Southeast
High School in Kansas City, Mo., Michelle Dean, a 5-9 guard from Penn
Valley Community College and McLouth (Kan.) High School, and Kieahsha Bell,
a 5-5 freshman point guard from Grand Blanc, Mich., will also join the team for
the 2003-2004 season.

FAULCONER, FAGAN NAMED MCAC FIRST TEAM

WICHITA, KAN.--Juniors LaJeana Fagan and Sherry Faulconer were named to the MCAC
All-Conference first team following the conclusion of the post-season
tournament. Fagan led Park with a .404 batting average and six homeruns.
Faulconer posted a team-high 24 RBI this season, while hitting .343; she pitched
to a 7-8 record with a 6.45 k/g average. Freshman Brooke Woolery (15
doubles) was named to the MCAC All-Conference Second Team; outfielder Tiffany
Bears (.276, 12 RBI) was named to the MCAC All-Conference Honorable Mention
team.

Women's Golf News
WOMEN'S GOLF PROGRAM SIGNS JOHNSON AND
BUCKINGHAM
PARKVILLE, MO--Bishop Miege High School senior Katie Johnson has confirmed her
plans to compete for the Park University women's golf team; a four-year letter
winner at Bishop Miege, Johnson medaled in all but one tournament during her
junior and senior seasons. She was nominated for the Kenneth Smith Award
in her junior year; she won the Kansas City Golf Association Junior Match Play
last year and was nominated for the Midwest Section PGA Girls Junior Player of
the Year.
Johnson is joined by signee Barbie Buckingham from
Gardner, Kan. Buckingham was a three-time Kansas State High School
Qualifier and winner of two Kansas State High School medals.

WILLIAMS CLEARS SIX
FEET, 8.75 INCHES; LANDS IN NATIONALS
EMPORIA, KAN.--Denzel Williams became the final national qualifier from Park
University on Saturday at the Emporia State University Twilight Qualifier when
he finished fifth in the high jump, clearing six feet, 8.75 inches.
Williams became the ninth student-athlete to qualify for the NAIA National
Championship meet in Olathe, Kan, on May 22.
