CARDINALS' COUNTER-ATTACK SINKS #13 PIRATES, 2-1Park UniversityWilliam Jewell College (Mo.)
PARKVILLE, MO--William Jewell College (16-1-0) got on the board early, celebrating goals by Jeremy Snowden (7:00) and Blake Ryan (9:00).  With a 2-0 lead, the #21 Cardinals packed it in, shifting between a 5-3-2 and a 4-4-2 while delivering long-balls from the back.  Park (11-6-0) struggled to score, despite outshooting Jewell, 12-5.  Park's Daniel Jiregna narrowed the margin to 2-1 in the 87th minute.  Park's next match is against Oklahoma Wesleyan University at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, November 7, in the first round of the MCAC Conference Tournament.

Region IV, MCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week

ESHIKUMO CAPS REGULAR SEASON WITH PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR IN REGION IV, MCAC
PARKVILLE, MO--Freshman Julia Eshikumo, a 5-7 forward on the Park University (10-4-1) women's soccer team, has been named Player of the Week in NAIA Region IV and Offensive Player of the Week in the MCAC for October 19-25. Eshikumo scored all four Park University goals this week, leading her team with three goals to a 3-2 win against Baker University on Senior Day, and scoring the first goal in a 1-1 draw on the road against #6 Lindenwood. Against Baker, she scored the game-winner in the 87th minute to break a 2-2 tie and put Park ahead. Eshikumo is Park's leading scorer this season with 18 goals and six assists (42 points).

2003-2004 Women's Basketball Preview

SUCCESSFUL NOVEMBER CRITICAL TO 03-04 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM
PARKVILLE, MO--Head coach Joe C. Meriweather, entering his seventh season at Park University, has brought in seven new student-athletes to bolster his lineup of six returners for the season ahead.  Key signees will add both size and experience to a core of returners.  Junior Randi Johnson will contribute at the forward position, following two seasons at Penn Valley Community College.  A 2001 graduate of Washington High School in Kansas City, Kan., the 6-0 forward will shore up the Pirates' front line along with LaTasha Johnson, Randi Meissner and returning seniors Priscilla Torto (NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete, 4.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg) and Tenysha Brown (10.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg).
     LaTasha
Johnson, a 6-1 forward from Seminole Community College, will join the Pirates in January.  She was distinguished as FCCAA Mid-Florida Conference Freshman of the Year last season, contributing 10.6 ppg and 6.9 rpg.  A 2002 graduate of Cypress Creek High School, Johnson averaged 19.1 ppg during her senior year, while being honored on the Florida All-State Third Team and the All-Orlando County Team.  Meissner, a 6-1 junior forward from Plymouth, Minn., will also add size and strength to Park's interior play this season. | MORE  | ROSTER | SCHEDULE | 02-03 STATS |

2003-2004 Men's Basketball Preview

FORCED TEMPO, GUARD PLAY CHARACTERIZE 03-04 PIRATES
PARKVILLE, MO--In the upcoming season, head coach Claude English will rely on stellar guard play continuing from late last year when the Pirates handled College of the Ozarks and Oklahoma City University in late February, extending their home record to 12-2 during 2002-2003. Returning junior guards Chuck Reed (All-Independent Region, 9.6 ppg, 43.5 3FG %) and Chip Weber (All-Independent Region, 8.9 ppg, 2 apg) along with Bill Winston, who returns for his senior season with the Pirates, anchor a guard-loaded team, aiming to challenge the elites in NAIA Division I men's basketball.
     Returning senior post players Dan Durrer (6.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg) and Alex Santos (5.1 ppg, 5.0 rpg, All-America Scholar-Athlete) will secure the paint for the Pirates. They're joined by returning letterwinners Corey Gupton and Thomas Holmes. Small forward Derek Stanley (6.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg) was sidelined with an injury after just eight games last season. He returns to the squad this season and is joined by his younger brother, Damien Stanley, who will suit up for Park beginning in January.

PARK, LINDENWOOD STAY KNOTTED THROUGH 110 MINUTES, PART WITH DRAW
ST. CHARLES, MO--Park University (10-4-1) held a one-goal lead for three minutes early in the second half, but for the remaining 107 minutes of Saturday evenings match between Park and #6 Lindenwood, the teams were tied.  After two overtimes, the match ended as a 1-1 draw.  Freshman Julia Eshikumo put Park on the board at the 45:25 mark.  Lindenwood's Dana Ballheimer was assisted by Becky Ryan to equalize the match just three minutes later.  Bridget Duhme kept net for Park, turning away 19 shots on goal from the Lions.
Summary:  PARK 1-0 (45:25) Julia Eshikumo; LU 1-1 (48:25) Dana Ballheimer (Becky Ryan). Keepers: PARK Bridget Duhme (110:00) 19 saves, 1 ga; LU --- (110:00) 3 saves, 1 ga. Shots: PARK 4, LU 20. Corner kicks: PARK 1, LU 9.

Men's Soccer Results

#12 PIRATES DISPOSSESSED IN WET, CHILLY CONDITIONS; SUFFER 3-1 LOSS AT  #6 LINDENWOOD
ST. CHARLES, MO--Lindenwood University posted three goals (Gordon Inglis, Branko Savic and Vladimir Knezevic) before the Pirates reached the board in the 87th minute when senior Magnus Gunnarsson headed-in a corner kick to bring the final result of Saturday's match to 3-1 in favor of the Lions (16-2-0).  Park dropped to 10-5-1 with the loss.  The Pirates host William Jewell College in the final home regular season contest on Tuesday, October 28, at 7:00 p.m.

GRACELAND OVERPOWERS PIRATES, DESPITE 11 KILLS FROM BROWN
LAMONI, IOWA--Park University slid to 11-19 on the season with a 3-1 loss to the Graceland University Yellowjackets in Lamoni, Iowa, on Saturday night.  Park took the first game before dropping the next three.  Scores were 25-30, 30-28, 30-26, and 30-22. Tenysha Brown had 11 kills to lead the Pirates.  Kim Vernon, a senior middle hitter from Camden Point, Mo., contributed six blocks in the match. Park hosts Peru State in MCAC Conference play on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.

STANLEY, RAINEY KEEP DREAM ALIVE IN EXHIBITION SHOWDOWN AGAINST PARK
PARKVILLE, MO--Dan Stanley (Pitt State, 16 points) and Layne Rainey (Calgary, 14 points) led the start-up exhibition team Livin' the Dream past Park University, 85-83, in men's basketball action Saturday afternoon.  Livin' the Dream trailed early in the contest, falling behind by as many as six points in the opening minutes.  By halftime, the exhibition squad held a one-point lead over Park.
     Freshman Antoin Burton led Park with 23 points; Chuck Reed pumped in 20 points, including a three-pointer in the final seconds to pull Park within striking distance.  Reed had six three-pointers for the afternoon.  Senior forward Dan Durrer had eight rebounds for Park.  Derek Stanley added six. 
     Livin' the Dream will continue its Kansas City-area exhibition circuit with preseason matchups against Rockhurst, Mo. Southern, Mo. Western, and JCCC.  Park University will tip-off the 2003-2004 season next Saturday when the Pirates host Bellevue University from Omaha, Neb., at 2:00 p.m.

PARK COMES UP SHORT AGAINST BENEDICTINE IN FIVE-GAME MATCH
PARKVILLE, MO--The Benedictine College Lady Ravens (22-7), currently ranked fourth in NAIA Region V, outlasted Park University (11-18) in five games Friday night, 30-22, 24-30, 22-30, 30-24, and 15-7.  Before 2003, head coach Peggy Tuter's teams were characteristically strong in five-game matches, building a record of 12-5 in matches that went the distance over the past three seasons.  With Friday's marathon, the program dropped to 1-6 in five-game matches this season.  Tenysha Brown and Kim Vernon each contributed six blocks for Park.  Sugglis Chinchilla led the Pirates with 11 kills.  Park University travels to Graceland University on Saturday, October 25, for a 7:00 p.m. match in Lamoni, Iowa.
