Men's Soccer News
GREEN, GUNNARSSON AND BOERSMA RECOGNIZED FOR
OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE  
OLATHE, KAN--Seniors Derrick Green from Kansas City, Mo. and Magnus Gunnarsson
from Kapogavur, Iceland were joined by junior Justin Boersma, a defender from
Kelowna, B.C., as 2003 NAIA All-America Scholar-Athletes this season. The
Pirates concluded their 14-8-1 season on Saturday, taking a #18 final national
ranking into the quarterfinal round of the National Championship Tournament.

Women's Basketball Results 
PARK PREVAILS IN TANGLE WITH LADY BOBCATS, GOES
7-1 IN NOVEMBER
PERU, NEB--Park University (7-1) women's basketball wrapped up its best
November on record, moving to 7-1 with an 88-57 victory against the Peru
State College Lady Bobcats (0-8) in Peru, Neb., Tuesday evening.
Randi Johnson (24 points, 9 rebounds), Randi Meissner (21 points, 15
rebounds), Kristin Gilmore (10 points, 4 rebounds) and Crystal
Tutschulte (10 points, 4 rebounds) helped Park to the 33-point
win. The Pirates led 53-27 at halftime.
Junior forward Rochelle Davitt had 27 points
and nine rebounds for Peru State. Kara Lally added 17
points. In their next contest, Park travels to Columbia, Mo., to
face the #22 Columbia College Cougars on Tuesday, December 2 at 7:00
p.m.

Men's Basketball Results
NEW-LOOK PIRATES STIFLE OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN, BREAK
STREAKS, 78-63
PARKVILLE, MO--Absent four injured starters, Park University (1-6) fashioned a
new chemistry and a new result Monday night as the Pirates defeated Oklahoma
Christian University (7-1), 78-63. It was the first win of the 2003 season
for Park; the first loss for OCU. Park established a 42-28 advantage by
halftime, then held it despite 20 points each from Eagles Brady Page and Jarred
Merrill.
Park freshman Ryan Meissner tallied 25 points, eight
rebounds and four steals; Corey Gupton had 14 points and nine rebounds.
Senior Bill Winston (16 points, five rebounds) and Chip Weber (10 points) also
scored double-figures for the Pirates who outrebounded Oklahoma Christian 40-21.

Cross Country News
BETHEL NAMED NAIA ALL-AMERICA SCHOLAR-ATHLETE
OLATHE, KAN--Park University women's cross country runner Crystal Bethel was
named as an NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete for the 2003 season. Bethel,
a senior majoring in chemistry and criminal justice, is from Nassau, Bahamas.

NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championship Meet 
ATEM, LONGUSKI REPRESENT PIRATES IN MEN'S CC NATIONALS;
ALL-AMERICAN ATEM TAKES SIXTH
LOUISVILLE, KENT--Senior Mabior Atem and sophomore Keith Longuski competed
against the top 254 runners in NAIA men's cross country Saturday morning in
Louisville, Kent., at the NAIA National Championships. Atem finished the
8K course in 24 minutes, 52.6 seconds, taking sixth place. It was the best
ever finish at Nationals for a Park University men's cross country
student-athlete. Longuski recorded a time of 27 minutes, 52.5

NAIA National Championship Tournament Men's Soccer Results
MAN-ADVANTAGE SENDS HASTINGS BRONCOS CANTERING INTO
SEMIS, PAST PARK, 1-0, YET AGAIN
OLATHE, KAN--For the third time this season, the Hastings College Broncos
(23-1-0) edged out Park University (14-8-1) by a score of 1-0; in Saturday's
NAIA National Championship Quarterfinals, the loss meant the end of Park's 2003
campaign.
Until an ejection sidelined junior midfielder Enock
Odede, the Pirates' leading scorer, Hastings and Park were neck-in-neck, knotted
at 0-0 through the 65th minute as keepers Cody Christline for Hastings and
Ricardo Avalos for Park turned away shot after shot. The Broncos needed
just five minutes of odd-numbered soccer to exploit the advantage; Nick Krueger
scored on an assist from Steve Fausset to put the Broncos ahead by the final
score of 1-0. The terminal booking was the first this season for Odede who
started all 23 matches for the Pirates.
The Broncos will face #2-seed Rio Grande (Ohio) in
Monday's semifinals at 8:00 p.m.

CRIMSON STORM RAINS ON PARK'S
TRIP TO BETHANY, OKLA., 78-63
BETHANY, OKLA.--Southern Nazarene's Mouhamado Diallo (26 points, 7 rebounds) and
Baptiste Haywood (21 points, 3 steals) led the Crimson Storm (6-0) over Park
University (0-6) on Saturday evening, 78-63. Chip Weber (15 points) and
William Winston (12 points) were Park's scoring leaders. Corey Gupton had
five rebounds for the Pirates. Southern Nazarene shot almost 52-percent, connecting on 27-of-52 (51.9%) from the floor in a game the that
sidelined three Park players with injuries and three more (Gupton, Alex Santos
and WInston) with five fouls. The Crimson Storm outrebounded the Pirates,
39-31. Park hosts Oklahoma Christian University (7-0) on Monday evening at
7:00 p.m. in the Breckon Sports Center.|

PIRATES MARCH PAST AUBURN-MONTGOMERY, ADVANCE TO FIELD
OF EIGHT 
OLATHE, KAN--Park University (14-7-1) trailed the Auburn-Montgomery Senators
(14-4-2) 1-0 for nearly 50 minutes in Friday evening's NAIA
National
Championship
Tournament. In the 82nd minute, junior midfielder Enock Odede scored from
the endline, curling the ball into the upper corner past AUM keeper Bjarki
Gudmundsson. The score remained knotted at 1-1 through two overtime
periods. In the shootout, Park's Paul McLaughlin, Ross Stride, Magnus
Gunnarsson, Chris Lisaka and Enock Odede struck the back of the net, keeping the
match even through the round of five. Park keeper Ricardo Avalos saved the
shot attempt from AUM's sixth shooter; junior defender Daniel Jiregna followed
up with the game-winning goal.
The Pirates will face Hastings College (Neb.) in
Saturday's quarterfinal round at 7:15 p.m. at the Olathe Soccer Complex.
Park and Hastings have squared off twice this season; each time the Broncos came
away with a 1-0 win on their home field.

Women's Basketball Results
MEISSNER, JOHNSON GANG UP ON VIKINGS WITH DOUBLE
DOUBLE-DOUBLES
MARSHALL, MO--Park University (6-1) led by just six points at halftime (39-33)
before breaking the game open against the Missouri Valley College Vikings (3-2)
Thursday evening in Marshall, Mo. Park pulled away for an 83-56 win.
Junior forwards Randi Meissner (23 points, 17 rebounds) and Randi Johnson (24
points, 10 rebounds) each chipped in a double-double for the cause.
Crystal Tutschulte (13 points) and Kristin Gilmore (11 points) also scored in
double-figures for the Pirates.
Tiffani Shreiber scored 16 points to lead Missouri
Valley. Next up, Park travels to Peru State College (Neb.) on Tuesday,
November 25, for a 5:30 p.m. game.|

GRIFFONS WARD OFF LATE RALLY BY UPSET-MINDED PIRATES
PARKVILLE, MO--Down 15 points with 9:20 remaining in the game, Park University
(0-5) surged back, holding Missouri Western State College (2-0) to just four
points in the final six minutes of the game.
 The
Griffons were stuck on 60 as Park pounded in nine unanswered points in the
game's closing minutes until Mo. Western junior Roosevelt Bolden sank a pair of
clutch free throws to put the Griffons ahead for the final score of 64-60.
Park slid to 0-5; the Pirates look ahead to a road contest against Southern
Nazarene on Saturday before returning to the Breckon Sports Center for Oklahoma
Christian University on Monday night at 7:00 p.m.
Chip Weber (13 points) and Derek Stanley (11 points)
led Park in scoring. Six of Stanley's points came in the closing minutes,
during Park's late surge. Freshman forward Ryan Meissner put up eight
points, seven rebounds and a team-high four steals. Dan Durrer and Bill
Winston also grabbed seven boards each for Park.
Langston Grady led the Griffons with 14 points.
Bolden put in 11 points, and guard Fred Battles scored 10 points to lead Mo.
Western to 2-0. |
