2003 Men's Soccer Preview
MEN'S SOCCER FORECAST CALLS FOR PERFECT MIX OF
RETURNERS, NEWCOMERS
PARKVILLE, MO--When
the #3 Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders visit Julian Field for Park's home
opener on August 30 at 7:00 p.m., a glow of optimism in the eyes of Pirate fans
will illuminate campus more brightly than the four bays of stadium lights far
above the turf. Third year head
coach Efrem Shimlis has brought in eight student-athletes who will bolster his
already-strong core of thirteen returners to make up the 2003 roster.
Under Shimlis' direction, the squad has their course for 2003 plainly
mapped: work hard; play smart, technically sound soccer; have fun; and minimize
distractions. According to
Shimlis, it's an approach that resonates through his team, both on and away from
the pitch, corroborating the group of twenty-one young men who hail from eight
different countries toward a shared goal of reaching the MCAC Conference
playoffs and contending for a spot in the NAIA Region IV tournament.
Heading into the 2003 season, the Pirates are ranked 14th
nationally and second in NAIA Region IV behind the Hastings College Broncos
(Neb.). Park was statistically
magnificent in 2002, ranking third nationally in goals scored (98) and goals
scored per game (3.9) behind perennial powers Auburn-Montgomery and Lindsey
Wilson. In the back, the Pirates
finished ninth in goals against (9) and sixth in goals against average (.8).|

ALUMNUS LORENZO BARRIENTEZ JR. SELECTED AS HEAD COACH
PARKVILLE, MO--Lorenzo Barrientez Jr., a four-year letterwinner in the Park
