'04 PIRATES MARKED BY NEW FACES, ROBUST RECRUITING CLASS
PARKVILLE, MO--Second year head coach Cary Lundy is accompanied by sixteen new players and ten returning letterwinners looking ahead at the 2004 season. Lundy's 2003 squad sported a record of 30-16, winding up third in the MCAC with a conference record of 18-6. This year, the group was chosen fourth in a preseason coaches' poll, behind Bellevue, Newman and College of the Ozarks.
By the end of last season, Lundy brought the program to its 100th win in four years (100-74-1, .571); it was also the first 30-win season since Park re-established the program in 2000 after a nearly two-decade layoff.

PARK DUSTS OFF THE PLATE; 2004 SEASON STARTS TOMORROW2004 Seniors (left to right): Tiffany Bears, Racheal Mead and Sherry Faulconer
PARKVILLE, MO--On Friday, Park University softball will get their first sampling of the 2004 season; the Pirates head to Fulton, Mo., for afternoon games against Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) and William Woods University (Mo.) in their opening games of the spring.
With a refurbished lineup from a year ago, first-year head coach Monica Wade, an alumna who lettered in both softball and soccer at Park in the mid-1990's, the 2004 Pirates begin the season with a formidable schedule that includes six games against NCAA Division II opponents and a trip to the notoriously competitive Oklahoma City University Tournament in mid-April. In the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference, Park was predicted to finish fourth this season--a forecast established by a poll of coaches in the league. Park was ordered behind College of St. Mary (Neb.), Bellevue University (Neb.) and Newman University (Kan.) in a pattern that matches the final standings from last season when Park finished 10-5 in the conference. In the postseason tournament, Park bowed out with losses to #1 College of St. Mary and #3 Bellevue University; both losses were by one run.
