PARKVILLE, MO--Sophomore Henok Belayneh and freshman Paul McLaughlin scored two goals each as #12 Park University (8-3-0, 3-0-0) opened the month of October with a 4-0 victory against the Newman University Jets (6-3-2, 2-1-1).  It was the first meeting between Newman and Park since 1995 to be decided by more than one goal.  Junior keeper Ricardo Avalos earned the shutout in goal, turning away 7 shots in the match.  The Pirates outshot Newman 14-7.  Park travels to York College for an MCAC match on Saturday afternoon.

BEDZRAH HAT-TRICK HELPS PIRATES WITHSTAND NEWMAN, 4-1Pam Bedzrah (left) netted three goals in Wednesday's win against Newman University.
PARKVILLE, MO--Park University senior forward Pam Bedzrah posted three goals as the Pirates (5-4-0, 3-0-0) claimed a 4-1 win against the visiting Newman University Jets (7-3-2, 3-1-0) on Wednesday afternoon.  Bedzrah scored the first goal just 20 seconds into the match; she tacked on two more in the 64th and 85th minutes.  Freshman Julia Eshikumo scored one goal for Newman University (Kan.)Park UniversityPark, assisted by Kesiann Francis.  Eshikumo also had an assist.  Newman's Ashley Anderson narrowed the game to 2-1 with a goal in the 58th minute, just before Bedzrah extended Park's lead for good.  Newman issued 14 shots against Park's defense of Valerie Copenhaver, Michelle Egler, Amber Pacheco and Lisa Flood.  Bridget Duhme recorded 7 saves for the Pirates who travel to York, Neb., for an MCAC match on Saturday.

Women's Volleyball Results

COLLEGE OF ST. MARY AFFIRMS #4 NATIONAL RANKING, DEFEATS PARK, 3-0
OMAHA, NEB.--The #4 College of St. Mary Flames defeated Park University (7-9, 2-2) in MCAC Conference action Tuesday night, taking the match in three games, 30-16, 30-24, and 30-20.  Park's Sugglis Chinchilla had 15 kills out of 33 attempts with five errors to lead the squad.  In their next match, Park travels to Peru State College on Friday night.

PARKVILLE, MO--Park University (4-4-0, 2-0-0) improved to 2-0-0 in the MCAC conference with help from Kesiann Francis' game-winning goal in the 101st minute.  The Pirates won the match over Bellevue (3-6-1, 1-3-1), 3-2.  In the eighth minute, freshman Julia Eshikumo put Park on the board, assisted by Tunde Nemeth.  Bellevue responded immediately, as Lindsay Harvey scored just one touch after the initial pass of the following sequence to even the match at 1-1.  In the 72nd minute, Amber Belitz gave Bellevue a one-goal lead; Nemeth tied the match with a goal in the 86th minute, bringing the match to 2-2.  A sophomore midfielder, Francis won the match with her third shot of the game, lifting Park to .500 for the first time in September and extending the Pirates' win-streak to three matches.  Park hosts Newman University at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

PIRATES SCALE TO 2-0 IN MCAC WITH WIN AGAINST BELLEVUEPlayers enjoy Paul McLauglin's equalizing goal in the 27th minute of Sunday's 4-1 win against Bellevue.
PARKVILLE, MO--Bellevue University (5-4-2, 2-1-1), enjoyed a momentary lead in Sunday's MCAC matchup against #14 Park (7-3-0, 2-0-0), after Jared Isenhart scored in the 27th minute of the match to put the Bruins up 1-0.  That lead, however, lasted the duration of a hiccup, as Park's Paul McLaughlin scored on an assist by Chris Lisaka just seconds later to equalize the match 1-1.  Henok Belayneh added another goal for Park just three minutes later; Park held the narrow 2-1 margin until late in the second half when McLauglin scored his second goal of the day.  Enock Odede capped scoring with a goal in the 78th minute.  The win brings Park to 2-0-0 in the MCAC conference heading into Wednesday's showdown with Newman University at Julian Field, 4:30 p.m.

PIRATES GLIDE PAST AVILA UNIVERSITY ON ODEDE HAT-TRICK
KANSAS CITY, MO--Junior midfielder Enock Odede scored three goals Thursday afternoon as #14 Park (6-3-0) University prevailed, 7-0, against the Avila University Eagles (3-3-1).  It was the Pirates' fifth win in-a-row.  Almir Lemes Jr. posted two goals for Park.  Ricardo Avalos recorded his fourth shut-out of the season, minding net for 82 minutes before freshman Chris Eslinger took over to close out the match.  Ross Stride and Daniel Jiregna each contribute a goal for Park.  Jiregna, a defender, suffered a gash above his eye early in the first period; his goal sailed in from 30 yards out, passing beyond the reach of Avila's Andy Phillips.  Phillips had six saves; Avalos had two.  Stride and Mekete Gashaw each contributed a pair of assists in the match.  The Pirates host Bellevue University in MCAC action on Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
