Parent Orientationis scheduled for Friday, August 17, 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm.  There’s an optional Campus Tour at 1:00 pm and the Parent Reception is on the first floor of Thompson at 1:30 pm.  The Opening Session is in McCoy Meetin' House at 2:00 pm and break-out sessions with faculty and staff are after that.  You'll learn more about expectations of faculty, jobs and internships, student development, residential student information, student involvement opportunities, adjustments for the parents, and more!

To RSVP your participation in the Parent and Family Orientation, please complete the registration form or call Student Life at (816)584-6377 by August 10.   When you're ready to come to campus, please utilize the Parkville Campus Map to help you determine which entrance to use and which parking lot is best. (We recommend the main entrance to Park off of Highway 9, then curving to the right at the "V." McCoy Meetin House will be directly in front of you.) If you're driving to campus just for the Parent and Family Orientation, we suggest Parking Lots 2, 3, or 4, as noted on the map.  Or, you can walk to Thompson from Copley Quad or Chesnut student housing.

Important Dates for Your Student:

New Student Orientation is Friday and Saturday, August 17 - 18. New Student Orientation is required for all students enrolled in LE 100, Freshman Seminar class. Students can learn more and register for New Student Orientation on the Student Life website.

If they are a residential student - move-in to the residence halls is Friday, August 17, between 9 am and 1 pm. If your student has not yet applied for housing, the information and forms are available at: www.Park.edu/Housing. Please be aware that all Parkville students are required to living in campus housing unless they are at least 21 years of age, have completed at least 58 credit hours, or are living with a parent or legal guardian. Even if your son or daughter is from the Kansas City area - we enourage students to live on campus. In addition to the convenience, research finds that residential students are more likely to graduate in 4 years, have higher GPAs, and are more likely to attain jobs related to their chosen field. They make stronger connections with faculty, staff, and other students, and have a more positive college experience. If you are concerned about funding their living on campus - I encourage you to check the housing calculator on the Park Housing webpage and see the comparisons. Please also encourage your student to discuss the option with his/her Student Financial Services counselor - to let her know of the concern. If the decision is made for your son or daughter to live at home with you - please complete the Request for Off-Campus Living/Housing Exemption Form by August 1 at the latest. Once that form is submitted and approved - the housing charges will be removed from your student's account.

If your son or daughter is selected to participate in Early Action, they will move into the halls a day early, on August 16 (between 9:30 am and 11:30 am). Early Action is a program for a small group of 30 students. If your student is interested in leadership and service - please encourage them to apply early for Early Action on the Student Life website. Selected students will be notified in July.

Fall, 2012 classes begin on Monday, August 20. Student Life plans a wide variety of activities and events during Welcome Week, August 20 - 24. All new students will participate in the Opening Fall Convocation, scheduled for Friday, August 24 at Noon.
