About ChemistryThe mission of the chemistry program is to provide students with the knowledge and skills in laboratory and in theory in order to communicate technical information in written and verbal form. Students will be able to think critically, analytically, ethically and be problem solvers in real life situations. Chemistry students will be able to go on for further education and successfully find suitable careers.
The BA or BS program in Chemistry prepares the students for immediate employment, or graduate and professional school.
Excellent courses are offered in the field of Organic, Physical, Analytical and Inorganic Chemistry. Students can choose courses according to their interest. Our small faculty/student ratio (1:14) helps to establish good one-on-one interactions.
Informal class discussions and participation allow students to gain confidence and develop skills needed in the working world. The instrumentation and laboratory techniques make students more versatile. Students seeking a chemistry major may opt to add a minor or second major in a complimentary area such as Biology, Mathematics, Computer Science or Business Administration.
- Instrumentation and Laboratory Methods: GC-MS, SCF, AA, UV-Vis, GC, HPLC, IR, ICP. Extractions, chromatography, titrations, wet sample analysis, organic synthesis and qualitative analysis.
- Computer: Excel, Word, Power Point, Internet Research, Medline Search, Molecular Modeling.
- Communication: learn to give scientific and professional presentations in our colloquium and professional writing courses.
- Research: Work within the discipline of chemistry or do inter-disciplinary research under the supervision of Park faculty.
