Modern Languages

Transfer Credit Policies for the Program in Modern Languages

1. If you speak a language (other than English) that is listed in the Park undergraduate catalog

  • You may take the CLEP (College Level Examination Program) exam, which will allow you to earn credit for Park undergraduate courses, based on your exam score and your payment of the relevant fees; CLEP exams are currently accepted in Spanish, French, and German only.
  • You may take the End-of-Course Exam in Spanish, which will allow you to earn pass/fail credit for SP201, the intermediate Spanish language course, based on your exam score and your payment of a $200 fee.
  • You may take the placement test in Spanish. Depending on your score, you may receive an exemption from the Modern Language requirement, but you will not receive course credit.

For information about signing up for the CLEP exam, contact the Park University Testing Center at (816) 584-6887.

2. If you speak a language (other than English) that is not listed in the Park undergraduate catalog

You may take the NYU 12-point Foreign Language Proficiency Test to earn an exemption from your Modern Language requirements; you will not receive any course credit based on your test score, only an exemption. The exam costs $300, and if you plan to take it away from NYU’s campus, you must arrange for a proctor and pay an additional $30 fee.

For information about signing up for the End-of-Course Exam in Spanish, the NYU Foreign Language Proficiency Test, or the placement test in Spanish, contact Modern Languages program coordinator Silvia Byer at silvia.byer@park.edu.
