Hauptmann School of Public Affairs

Dean's Message

Laurie DiPadova-StocksThe Hauptmann School for Public Affairs is about much more than top-notch graduate degrees. A distinctive history, academic excellence, a commitment to developing leaders for an increasingly "unscripted future"—these are the attributes that set the Hauptmann experience apart.

We live in relentlessly changing times. Globalization, technology, climate—all of these and more are fueling changes of historic proportions. Never has the employment and professional environment been so dynamic. At the HSPA, we track these changes through our Unscripted Future Initiative and fashion our courses and programs to prepare our students to lead in that future.

We are proud to carry the name of Park University Professor Emeritus, Jerzy Hauptmann, Ph.D., a man who himself faced dramatic uncertain times. A native of Poland, he helped lead Warsaw's resistance to the Nazis during World War II. Not knowing who in his family would be alive the next day, he faced the ultimate in uncertain times, and he brought this keen awareness to the United States and to Park University in 1951. He taught at Park for more than 50 years and designed the M.P.A. degree, instilling in students their responsibility to make the world better—regardless of their chosen profession. In keeping with this spirit, we emphasize cross-sector relationships, responsible exercise of authority, leadership and service through master's degree programs in public affairs and healthcare leadership, graduate certificate programs for students who want to pursue specialized knowledge in on area and an individualized portfolio program for working adults.

Students know that our faculty is renowned, our classes are small, our downtown Kansas City location is exciting and our community of students is vibrant. They also know that the education they received here will prepare them—like no other—to go out in the nation and world, lead and make a difference.

Our citizen-centered, professional programs of graduate study are grounded in the liberal arts tradition and have produced countless leaders in and across all sectors. I invite you to explore the programs of the Hauptmann School for Public Affairs and the possibilities for you!

Sincerely,

Laurie N. DiPadova-Stocks, Ph.D.
