Audition Information

Every applicant to the International Center for Music must audition before the music faculty. In approved situations a recording may be submitted in lieu of a live audition. Auditions must be completed by March 1 of each year in order to be eligible for scholarship consideration.

Undergraduate Certificate and Bachelor of Music Audition Requirements

Piano
a) One Prelude and Fugue from the Well-Tempered Clavier by J. S. Bach
b) One complete sonata by Mozart, Haydn or Beethoven
c) One virtuoso etude by F. Chopin (except numbers 3, 6, 9, 13, 14, or 19)
d) One work of the applicant's choice

Violin, Viola and Cello
a) Two contrasting movements of unaccompanied Bach
b) One movement of a standard concerto
c) One etude


Graduate Certificate and Master of Music in Performance Audition Requirements

Piano
a) One complete work by a Baroque composer
b) One complete classical sonata
c) Two etudes by Chopin
d) One work or group of works by a Romantic composer
e) One work of choice

Violin, Viola and Cello
a) Two contrasting movements of unaccompanied Bach
b) One movement of a classical concerto with cadenza
c) One movement of a romantic concerto or a concert piece


Graduate Artist Diploma in Performance Audition Requirements

Piano
a) A recital program of at least 60 minutes duration demonstrating a wide variety of styles.
b) Two complete concerti to include:
    1. One concerto by W. A. Mozart or L. van Beethoven
    2. One concerto from a 19th or 20th century composer.

Violin, Viola and Cello
a) A recital program of at least 60 minutes duration demonstrating a wide variety of styles.
b) Two complete concerti to include:
    1. One concerto from the 18th century
    2. One concerto from a 19th or 20th century composer.
