Core Learning OutcomesLearning Outcomes submitted by a Department become “Core” Learning Outcomes upon approval by the University Assessment Committee. Three-fourths of these Core Learning Outcomes must be measured in or by the Core Assessment. Note: The specification of Core Learning Outcomes for a particular course is not to be construed as a limitation on the addition of other instructor-added learning outcomes, contingent upon departmental approval. Core Learning Outcomes must be clearly identified in the syllabus. A Core Learning Outcome should be concise, brief, and use an imperative verb that connotes something measurable (observable). Use a variety of verbs from different levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy where appropriate. (To view Bloom’s Taxonomy click on "Imperative Verbs" at the top of your screen). Examples of good imperative verbs are: demonstrate, analyze, express, evaluate, create.
