CONSTITUTION OF THE PARK UNIVERSITY

STUDENT ATHELTIC TRAINERS’ ASSOCIATION

ARTICLE I               NAME

The name of this organization will be the Park University Student Athletic Trainers’ Association.

ARTICLE II              PURPOSE

The purpose of this organization will be to promote the profession of athletic training to students interested in becoming a certified athletic trainer.

Mission Statement:  To promote Park University’s Athletic Training Education Program, to support one another in pursuit of future career and personal endeavors, to give back to the community, and enjoy the journey in the process.

Vision Statement:  To set the standard for the athletic training profession through our dedication, high academic standards, and success.

ARTICLE III            OBJECTIVES

                                The objectives of this organization will be:

      1. To promote the field of athletic training.

      2. The advancement, support, and the improvement of the

          athletic training profession in all its phases.

      3. To promote a better working relationship among the

          students, staff, and community.

      4. To develop further the ability of each of its members

          through educational and practical students.

      5. To enable members to become better acquainted

          personally  through casual good fellowship.

      6. To better serve the common interest of its members by providing

          a means for free exchange of ideas within the profession.

      7. To establish a contact in the athletic training room.

ARTICLE IV            MEMBERSHIP

The membership will include any student that meets the following criteria:

1. The student must be majoring in the athletic training     education program at Park University.

2. The student must show an active interest in athletic     training.

3. The student must achieve and maintain a

    cumulative  2.75 grade point average

    throughout   their academic career or he/she will

    be  placed on a probationary status (see

    Park  University Athletic Trainers’ Association

    By- Laws).

4. All students wishing to associate themselves with the     Park University Student Athletic Trainers’

    Association   must be in good standing with

    Park University.

 

ARTICLE V               SUSPENSION OF MEMBERSHIP

                                 Suspension of membership will be contingent upon:

       1. Any member convicted of a felony, use of illegal

           narcotics,  distribution of illegal narcotics, or distribution

           of steroids, will be expelled from this organization.

                                                                                                                           2. All members must comply with the Code of Ethics set forth by  

           the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.  Failure to do so

       

           will  result in suspension of membership.

       3. Any complaints against a member must be brought to

           the attention of an elected officer.  The elected officers will

           then address this complaint.

       4. The elected officers will meet with the individuals involved.

       5. The elected officers will then decide to either proceed with

       

           or dismiss the complaint based on the Park University

           Student Athletic Trainers’ Association By-Laws and

           Constitution and the Park University’s Student Handbook.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              6. If the elected officers decide to proceed, the complaint will

           be brought to the attention of the Park University Student

           Athletic Trainers’ Association.

Suspension of membership must be approved by majority vote

           of those members present.

ARTICLE VI            APPEALING SUSPENSION OF MEMBERSHIP

A person whose membership is suspended in accordance with Article V of the Constitution will be allowed, either in person or through some member of the Park University Student Athletic Trainers’ Association, to appeal to the elected officers.  This appeal must be done within the semester of the suspension. The overruling of the suspension must be approved by majority vote of those members present.

ARTICLE VII           DUES

      1. Dues will be $15.00 each semester.

      2. All dues must be paid in full within the first meeting in October

          for  the fall semester and the first meeting in February for

          the spring semester. 

      3. The treasurer will collect and manage all funds.

ARTICLE VIII          ORGANIZATION

 

1. The governing body will consist of a president, a

    vice- president, a secretary, and treasurer.

2. These officers will be elected annually by

    the membership.

3. Removal of the officers will be governed by Article V.

ARTICLE IX             COMMITTEES

1. The president, the vice-president, the secretary, and     the treasurer will appoint all committees.

2. All committees will be headed by a chairperson.

 

ARTICLE X              MEETINGS

1. An official meeting will consist of two officers and

    no fewer than four members and must convene

    for no less than ten minutes.

2. Meetings will be held approximately once

    every  month throughout the academic

    year (fall/spring).

3. Meeting times will be decided on by the membership.

4. The highest active officer can call special meetings

    if needed to carry out the business of

    the  organization.

ARTICLE XI             QUORUM

             

      1. The quorum of all meetings of the organization will be

          any members that are present, provided that all members

          are aware of the meeting.

ARTICLE XII            AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION

1. The officers of the organization will discuss

    the proposed amendment and bring the

    proposed amendments to the general body at

    the next meeting for discussion and vote.

2. Amendments may be added to the constitution with

    a majority vote of the membership.

ARTICLE XIII          AMENDMENTS TO THE BY-LAWS

1. The BY-Laws may be amended at any official

    meeting of the general body by a majority vote.

2. The By-Laws may not be added, deleted, or

    amended by a vote by mail or telephone.

ARTICLE XIV           POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE GOVERNING BODY

1. Advisors will count votes of the election of the

    new officers.  Advisors will be a part of any

    committee along with the officers. 

2. The president will preside over all meetings.

    He/she will enforce all rules and regulations of

    the organization.  He/she must have completed

    all the requirements of the organization and

    maintain them in an outstanding manner. 

    The president is directly responsible for all actions

    of the organization and must inform the advisors

    of all organization activities that come to

    his/her attention.  He/she counts all votes

    that pertain to the organization other than

    votes taken on officers.

3. The vice-president will assume the powers of

    the president in his/her absence.  The

    vice-president will maintain all the rules of

    the organization in a good manner and will

    become Ad Hoc chairman of any committees

    formed by the organization.

4. The secretary will abide by all organization rules

    and will keep an accurate record of proceedings

    for the organization.  He/she is expected to

    be present at all meetings.  He/she notifies

    all members of the happenings of the

    organization with a summary of the minutes to

    be distributed to the members.

The treasurer will abide by all organization rules and will keep an accurate record of accountings for the organization.  He/she will collect all dues and be responsible for any other financial matters of the organization.
