Bachelor of Science in Athletic TrainingThe above policies and procedures manual provides detailed information about the athletic training program, including guidelines for transfer students. ![]() The athletic training major, accredited by CAATE (Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education), provides students with a variety of courses and practical experiences related to the prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Admission to this program occurs prior to the sophomore year. See Curriculum requirements | Admissions requirements Once accepted into the program, students will be required to do a total of four clinical assignments over no less than four semesters. Upon completion of the athletic training major, students are eligible to apply for the Board of Certification exam. Transfer students who qualify to be at the sophomore level or higher will be required to apply to the athletic training program prior to enrollment in athletic training courses. Acceptance is based on a minimum overall grade point average, success in designated professional courses, recommendations, athletic training competencies and proficiencies, and a minimum completion of observational hours under the direct supervision of a Certified Athletic Trainer. The Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) is a highly educated and skilled health care professional. In cooperation with physicians and other allied health personnel, the athletic trainer functions as an integral member of the health care team in a wide array of work settings - including secondary schools, colleges and universities, sports medicine clinics, professional sports, hospitals and the military.
