BI 111 (GE) - Environmental Biology

Course Description: An introduction to biological science with emphasis on heredity, evolution, and ecology. Man's role in his ecosystem is discussed.

Credit Hours: 3:3:4

Learning Outcomes: This is an introductory course in Biology for all students regardless of background and/or area of specialization. The overall objective of the course is to introduce the student to the broad area of science using the discipline of biology as the focal point. Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Use biology as a model to demonstrate what science is, how it works, and illustrate its potentials and limitations;
  • Explain how living things are related to each other and their environments;
  • Discuss evolutionary and ecological processes and the influences organisms and environments have on each other;
  • Gain an understanding of the importance of science (biology in particular) in everyday life;
  • Gain hands-on experience within the science laboratory.

Course Assessment: Papers, presentations, lectures, lab, quizzes.
