NEW WALK-IN CAREER COUNSELING HOURS
Casey Falmer, Career Counseling Graduate Intern will start taking new walk-in hours beginning Spring I 2012.  Her hours are Tuesdays:  10:15 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Wednesdays:  9:00 a.m. - noon.  You can also email her for an appointment at: falmer115843@avila.edu.  Please take advantage of the opportunity to meet with her.

NONPROFIT CONNECT'S 6TH ANNUAL SHADOW DAY

Registration is now open for Nonprofit Connect’s 6th Annual Shadow Day! As part of the registration process, students will select their top 5 choices for a Shadow Day Host.  Every effort will be made to match them with one of their choices. 

·     Students are able to view Host profiles at http://www.npconnect.org/page/2012_Host_Profiles/  

·     To register for Shadow Day, students may complete the form found at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/W9LQNSW.  

What:  Nonprofit Shadow Day is a two-part day that helps expose college students to the nonprofit sector and make contacts with nonprofit professionals. 

When:  Friday, February 3rd, 2012, 8:00am – 4:00pm

Where:  (Part 1, 8:00-9:30) Students and Hosts meet and greet in Kansas City for breakfast and panel discussion with Young Nonprofit Professionals (Part 2, 9:30-4:30) Shadows spend the day at the Host’s work site. 

Why:  To network, observe, experience, and connect with others interested in the nonprofit sector.

KU CAREER FAIR

COSMC:  HEART OF AMERICA INTERVIEW DAY

The COSMC Interview Day will be held at Baker University's - Overland Park campus and will involve 10 area colleges.  Juniors, seniors and recent alumni from the participating institutions will be invited to interview for positions for 20 minute interviews.  Both open and pre-screen schedules will be offered.  Employer registration deadline is January 18th. Student online sign up dates are January 23rd - February 23rd 2012.  Students may sign up and Employers may register at:  https://aps1.missouriwestern.edu/COSMC/  Resumes are required for students to complete the sign-up.


BRIGHT FUTURE EMPLOYMENT FAIR

The Bright Future Employment Fair provides part-time and full-time summer employment, internships and pre-apprenticeships for Greater Kansas City residents, minimum age of 15.  To attend the fair you must submit an employment application. You must complete your application by Saturday, February 18th.  You can fill out and submit the application online, print the form, complete and mail it in, or complete and submit the application onsite.  You may send/submit extra attachments such as: resume, letter of recommendation,( optional) transcript and/or report card. These can be submitted online with your employment application, or you can mail them to:

PARK UNIVERSITY MOCK INTERVIEW DAY

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

Park University - Parkville Campus

 

Each year the Career Development Center targets different majors for the Mock Interviews. For 2012, Communications, Graphic Design and Marketing students are invited to sharpen their resume and interviewing skills with Mock Interview Day.   Each participant will interview with 2 companies to gain exposure to different interviewing styles. The interviews will last 30 minutes each for a total of a 1 hour time commitment.  The first 20 minutes will be the interview and the last 10 minutes will be a feedback session on overall appearance, dress, resume, interviewing style and responses.  There is a limited number of interview slots available, so please contact Traci Klasing if interested in participating.

International Trade Council will be hosting a an annual event, International Career Day, for college level students from the Greater Kansas City area at Union Station from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.  This event is the result of a collaborative effort of colleges and universities in the area to host a regional event for students and interested employers. International Career Day will consist of two panel discussions, table displays, and showcases of International Trade Council educational programs such as “Trade Wins” and “GRI”.   This event is open to all students in all majors who are interested in an International career path.  Go to:  http://www.itckc.org/ for more information.


ETIQUETTE / NETWORKING DINNER

Network with fellow Park students and area employers as well as students from Benedictine College, Missouri Western State University and William Jewell College.  You will also learn proper dinner etiquette from an expert in the field while dining on a gourmet meal. 

 

Registration for students is $15 per person and is open to the first 20 students who register from Park University.  Contact the Career Development Center on the Parkville Campus in Mabee 406 and speak with Susan Michaud.  The fee covers a portion of your cost for the dinner and is due at the time of registration. The remainder of the cost will be covered by the Career Development Center.  The fee is non-refundable! There are 3 levels of Corporate Sponsorship available for attendance

Gold - $500 fee:  includes registration for 4 representatives, special recognition, company information listed at attendee table, and an opportunity to address attendees

Silver - $250 fee:   includes registration for 2 representatives, special recognition, and company information listed at attendee table

Bronze - $150 fee:  includes registration for 1 representative and company information listed at attendee table
