List of Services CAREER DEVELOPMENT CENTER The mission of the Career Development Center is to creatively provide comprehensive career and graduate school services and resources to effectively maximize career opportunities for students, alumni, employers, and the global University community. The Career Development Center (CDC) provides services for all stages of career development, including:
The goal of the CDC is to provide the career planning tools to insure a lifetime of career success. CAREER PLANNING AND ASSESSMENT The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality assessment. The MBTI shows how personality types fit with various work environments and how they interact with other personality types. The MBTI is available in the Career Development Center - Mabee #406, Parkville, MO campus or online at www.mbti.org – (Fee for this test online.) JOB POSTINGS Full time and Part time jobs and Internships are listed in an online database. In order to access the listings on this database, go to the career database student link on the website. New users to erecruiting will be able to create their own account by self-registering using the Job Database link. The majority of jobs will no longer be posted on the jobs board at the Parkville Campus Center. The eRecruiting database will allow students to access job information from any computer and will provide ready access to students at all Park University locations. This database is currently used by over 500 educational institutions and has nationwide postings. Employers: PLEASE E-MAIL YOUR JOB POSTINGS TO jobs@park.edu. We post all jobs for 60 days and forward the information to academic departments as well as to students that are registered in the database. There is no charge for this service. We welcome your job opportunities. CAREER INFORMATION Resume and Cover Letter Preparation: Information is available online at Career Info-Handouts link to help you create a resume and cover letter. Contact layne.prenger@park.edu or traci.klasing@park.edu to discuss your needs or to e-mail your information for review and recommendations. Career Fairs: The Career Development Center hosts two career fairs at Park University each year, an all majors fair and a nursing career fair. In addition, the CDC in conjunction with COSMC, our consortium of small colleges in the Kansas City metropolitan area, sponsors an Interview Day. Park University also participates in several other career fairs; including two education interview events, the Greater Kansas City Career Fair and the Heart of America Career Fair. More information on career fairs can be found at www.park.edu/career under the Upcoming Events link. Career Workshops: Each semester information is presented on professional correspondence, graduate school preparation and information, interviewing and job search strategies, information on choosing a major, etc. Internships: The Career Development Center can assist you with locating and completing an internship. An internship is a great way to gain “real world” experience in an academic field or major. The internship enhances career decision-making, allows for opportunities for classroom learning, provides employer networking, teaches job search skills, and improves post-graduation job prospects by giving valuable work experience. Contact Traci Klasing, Internship Coordinator at traci.klasing@park.edu or 816-584-6407 for more information. Interviewing Strategies: Workshops are conducted each semester to educate potential job candidates on the latest in interviewing. Mock Interviews: Do you want to see how you come across in an interview? If so, ask to be videotaped in a mock interview. You will be able to define areas of improvement and to sharpen your skills for the professional interview. Graduate School Information: If you are planning to go to graduate school, the CDC can help you in selecting a graduate program that meets your educational and financial needs. Information and registration for graduation admission exams including the GMAT, GRE, OAT, DAT, LSAT, and MCAT is available online at the related links or in person at Mabee #406 on the Parkville Campus. Fees for Services: All services are free to students, staff, faculty, and alumni of Park University. A nominal fee may be assessed for members of the community who do not have an affiliation with the university. Senior Career Surveys: Graduating seniors are asked to complete a career survey that looks at their career/life choices. This information is helpful in marketing Park University graduates and to provide information to companies on students who are currently seeking employment. It also provides an opportunity to give feedback to the university on areas of strengths, as well as to identify needed improvements. This survey is now available at the Seniors Link on the Career Development website. WE LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU!
