The Presidential Leadership Program for Women Faculty, facilitated by the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, provides a venue for women faculty to define and pursue leadership excellence in their academic careers.

Goals:

  1. Define leadership excellence for your academic career.
  2. Identify barriers to leadership excellence and resources to overcome those barriers.
  3. Recommend institutional changes to promote the status of women faculty at Park University.

2009 Legacy Project

In addition to facilitating understanding and pursuit of leadership excellence, the Presidential Leadership Program for Women Faculty seeks to tap expertise in shaping Park University for all women.

As their legacy project, the Presidential Leadership Program for Women Faculty class of 2008-2009 proposes the following flexible framework of events and activities that will sustain the leadership program.

I. Build relationships with cohorts through a series of meetings and gatherings:

August

Social gathering with previous years' members and women leaders in the community

Fall Semester

Regular meetings of current year's class to discuss issues facing women

Spring Semester

Meeting with the previous years' members of the Presidential Leadership Program to discuss current issues facing women

II. Provide opportunity for professional development

Each year, participants will engage in a formal professional development opportunity for participants, such as attendance at the OHWE conference.  Consider individualizing the opportunity to meet the different needs of each member or find an opportunity that addresses the common needs of the group.

III. Establish a Women's Council

Over time, the group will work with previous groups to establish a Women's Council.  A Women's Council will provide mentoring opportunities and fundraising initiatives for University Women.

a. Invite professional women leaders to an event sponsored by the

    Leadership Program.

b. Build on the contacts each year, working toward an organization

(women's council) who will serve as a mentor group for women

students and faculty and eventually raise funds for scholarships for

   research and development

IV. Provide opportunities for fundraising

Establish a gift designation be established through University Advancement.  The suggested name for the designation is The LEadership Program for University Women.  Gifts will be used to support faculty and student leaders in professional development and research.
