The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning is pleased to co-sponsor with CDL an online workshop for faculty interested in learning more about the Quality Matters inter-institutional peer review process and rubric for online courses. This is a unique opportunity to receive free access to the first of two online workshops leading to faculty certification as a national QM peer reviewer.
The online workshop and live wrap-up session, “Applying the Rubric,” will be made available to all interested faculty through eCollege starting November 16.
“Applying the Rubric” is a self-paced workshop that culminates in quizzes and individual activity; a group activity will be completed during the live wrap-up session. Participants should expect to dedicate approximately 10-12 hours to the process. Information will also be available for faculty who wish to continue on to become certified QM peer reviewers, which involves completing a second online workshop through the national Quality Matters organization for a fee of $75.
Please RSVP to cetl@park.edu no later than Thursday, November 12, if you wish to be enrolled in the online training workshop. When submitting your RSVP please also send in your faculty ID number.

- Wednesday, December 16: Quality Matters Workshop wrap-up session
- Location: College for Distance Learning, Classroom
- The live wrap-up session, which may be participated in via phone or in-person, will be facilitated by certified QM trainer and master reviewer Dr. David Curtis on December 16, from 9-11 a.m.
- In order to participate in this session you must be registered for the workshop which begins on November 16th (see entry above).

- Monday, February 8 - Tuesday, February 9: MyLabs Demonstration and Training

- The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) is pleased to co-sponsor with the College for Distance Learning (CDL) a demonstration and training session on MyLabs.
MyLabs are innovative interactive online learning tools that cover a full range of assessment tools for a range of disciplines—for instance, ePortfolios,language learning tools, and interactive science simulations. With their abundant collection of resources, MyLabs offers students many
ways to study, and instructors many ways to save time – all integrated into the eCollege platform.
Two opportunities to view the demonstration are scheduled: Monday, February 8th, 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. CT and Tuesday, February 9th, 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. CT. The training session will be held on Monday, February 8th, 3:15 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. CT. The sessions will be facilitated by
Steve Ast and Marv Meneeley of eCollege. All sessions will be held in CDL MA and can also be accessed via the web (access information can be found in the email announcment or contact CETL for the access information).
The faculty-focused informational sessions will include the following topics:
- An overview of the MyLabs that are currently available and/or will be available by fall 2010 in the eCollege platform.
- Examples of student improvement due to MyLabs adoption
- Demonstration of one or more MyLab titles to show the interface and get a feel for the product
- Discussion on the adoption process

- Tuesday, March 23, 12:00 - 1:30: Perspectives on PTSD Webinar
- The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning is pleased to co-sponsor with the College for Distance Learning (CDL) a live online webinar on working with students who have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The webinar is open to all Park University faculty, full-time and adjunct, and Campus Center Directors and staff. The webinar will be facilitated by Dr. John D. Moore, licensed mental health counselor and Professor of Health Sciences at American Military University. Since 2002, Dr. Moore has worked with American Military University students serving in high stress zones and has been recognized for his outstanding work.
The webinar will include common symptoms of PTSD, information on how PTSD may manifest in the classroom (in face to face settings and online), the construct of vicarious trauma (VT), and how VT can negatively impact the educator. Concrete resources will be provided for helping students living with PTSD as well as useful suggestions for working through VT.
Learning objectives:
- Assess the common symptoms of PTSD· Review how PTSD can affect the student and the student’s family
- Explore how students living with PTSD may present with certain behaviors in the classroom
- Analyze the construct of vicarious trauma and how this can impact the educator
- Identify and assess various support resources for students as well as the e-educator
Faculty and staff are asked to register for the event no later than Monday, March 15th, 9:00 a.m. (CST), by sending the completed registration form to cetl@park.edu. Faculty and staff are encouraged to send in questions for the speaker prior to the webinar to cetl@park.edu or note them on your registration form. If you are unable to join us, the webinar will be recorded for future playback. At this time, this event is limited to Park Uinversity faculty and staff members only.
