Beginning this fall, former Mayor Kay Barnes and Park University will offer an all-new KANSAS CITY LEADERSHIP ACADEMY designed to groom young professionals for greater leadership roles in your organization, our community, and beyond.

A joint initiative of the Center for Leadership at Park University, the Downtown Council, and the Kansas City Public Library, the LEADERSHIP ACADEMY will provide attendees with a combination of the latest scholarship in leadership studies plus practical hands-on guidance in achieving executive excellence. The eight sessions (including two one-day retreats) will include individual data-gathering regarding current leadership strengths and weaknesses; history of leadership theory development and current trends; and leadership skill development through group processes, case studies, and analyses of the challenges and opportunities for organizational development and civic engagement. Also included will be two opportunities to interact with leading scholars of the American presidency as part of the Library’s Hail to the Chief series.

The inaugural KANSAS CITY LEADERSHIP ACADEMY series will take place September – December, 2012. Enrollment will be limited to 20 participants at a fee of $2500 per person.

It is important to emphasize that the LEADERSHIP ACADEMY by design will not conflict or compete with the Centurions or Kansas City Tomorrow programs as well as other adult leadership offerings in the region. As a program of the Center for Leadership at Park University, the LEADERSHIP ACADEMY will be academically based, drawing on the resources of the University and the Hauptmann School for Public Affairs.
