Communication Arts: The StylusJenni Visala, Stylus co-editor and photographer, dominated the photography judging in the Missouri Student Media Association (MCMA) annual contest announced April 12 in Springfield, Mo. She won five photography awards across three categories for work published during 2002. Visala was awarded first, second and honorable mention in sports photography for division three of the statewide contest. She was awarded first place for best photo page, along with Jana Julian and Luke Echterling . She was responsible for design of the page which revisited Sept. 11, 2001, in New York City on Sept. 11, 2002, and she contributed photographs to it. In addition, she was awarded honorable mention for best feature photograph and honorable mention for sports column writing. Other first place honors went to Michael Montague for sports writing, Ashley Rader and Janet Narron for in-depth reporting, and Ashley Rader and Misty Wilczek for best feature page. In all, the Stylus brought home five first place awards. The newspaper placed second in its division in both the sweepstakes category and best overall newspaper category. The newspaper placed second in page one and in editorial page design. Twenty-eight Missouri colleges and universities participated in the 2002 contest.
