Park University: Faculty Manual - Faculty Emeritus Status

Emeritus Guidelines (Approved by Faculty Senate April 26, 2006)

To be considered for Emeritus status, the faculty member must:

Be tenured at the time of retirement.
Have served as a full-time faculty member for Park University for at least ten years.
Hold the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at the time of retirement.
Have a distinguished record of teaching effectiveness, scholarship, and/or service to Park University.
Have submitted his or her announcement of retirement to the Human Resources Department.
Not have accepted a full-time teaching position at another university.

After consultation with faculty members within the department, the Department Chair may submit a request for consideration of Emeritus status to the Dean. The request should include the rationale for granting the faculty member Emeritus status. If the Dean approves this request, it should be submitted to the Faculty Senate in time for its March meeting.
The request will be considered by the Faculty Senate. If the request is approved, it will be forwarded to the Provost.
If the Provost approves the request, he or she will submit it to the University’s Board of Trustees for consideration at the May meeting.
If the Board of Trustees approves the request, the new Professor Emeriti will be announced at the Spring Faculty Conference.

Hold the title of Professor Emeritus or Associate Professor Emeritus
Retain ID card
Retain faculty parking privileges
Retain or be assigned office space, if available
Retain University-provided internet service, as available
Retain faculty library privileges
Retain faculty privileges to attend social, athletic, and cultural events
Be listed in the appropriate university catalog as “Professor Emeritus” or "Associate Professor Emeritus"
Receive appropriate university publications
Retain eligibility for research and other grants with appropriate approvals
