Exempt: researching requiring only department approval. Exempt research does not need to be submitted to the IRB for approval. Exempt research includes:
Expedited: Research involving IRB approval. IRB approval can be granted by the joint evaluation of the Human Participants (dennis.kerkman@park.edu) and Animal Subjects subcommittee ( don.williams@park.edu ) chairs; expedited research does not need to be reviewed by the entire IRB. Please allow at least two weeks for a decision on expedited reviews. Note: If your research requires that you record identifying information (e.g., names, Social Security Numbers, etc.), then you will need to have each participant sign a “coding agreement” in order to protect the privacy and confidentiality of participants forms. Full Board: requires both departmental and full IRB approval. Full board reviews require the review and majority approval of the entire IRB. Full board research includes:
Required Training: If your research falls into the “Expedited” or “Full Board” categories (see above), then the investigator(s) are required to complete the following training modules before submitting anything to the IRB, and are required to submit a copy of their program completion certificate with their application.
