Changes in Federal Financial Aid for 2011-2012

The legislative process defines federal financial assistance. Recently changes have occurred that will impact federal financial aid that requires your attention.

2nd Pell grant in a year — will no longer be available after summer 2011.
Legislation passed in April 2011 removing this option.

Satisfactory Academic Progress — Park University has adopted a new policy the will be updated on our website after the 2011 satisfactory progress report has been evaluated.

  • Progress will be measured once a year, at the conclusion of the spring 2012 semester. The measurement will include any coursework taken from summer 2011 to spring 2012.
  • Students will need to pass 75% of the courses attempted, and earn a minimum cumulative grade point of a 2.00.
  • If a student does not meet satisfactory academic progress, eligibility for financial assistance will be suspended.
  • Students may retake a class in an attempt to receive a better grade only once and receive aid for that repeated class only once.
  • Appeals may be submitted when issues surrounding the academic deficiency are catastrophic, unplanned, and documentable. The website will have a link to the appeal process.

Repeated coursework — this new policy requires institutions to check coursework taken previously (as in transferred from other institutions) to make sure that aid is disbursed
  • Students may retake a class in an attempt to receive a better grade only once and receive aid for that repeated class only once.
