Spend your 2017 spring break volunteering abroad! All Park University students (online, campus center, Parkville) who are committed to civic engagement, serving others and making a difference are invited to apply for this rewarding volunteer experience in Guatemala or Panama. Anyone aged 12 and over may participate in this program! Bring your mom, brother, friend -- they are welcome. The group is usually composed of half nursing students/faculty and half non-nursing students. No medical experience is necessary.
Medical volunteers will collaborate with local leaders to provide primary health care to families of the communities and surrounding areas. Most families have no medical history available. General heath assessments will also be part of the volunteer work. Non-medical volunteers will support the educational activities of the water sanitation, and hygiene program that includes: installing water filters, cooking stoves, latrines, monitoring the use and operation of the filter at the home of the families, participating in de-worming campaigns, reforestation and other activities at the schools.
As no courses are required in conjunction with this program, financial aid is not available for students. The sponsoring office will be assisting accepted applicants with fundraising opportunities.
