The 2008 Hauptmann Lecture Series

Hauptmann Lecture Series

On Wednesday, April 9, Park University celebrated and honored the life and legacy of one of the most revered figures in its 133-year history, Jerzy Hauptmann, Ph.D., professor emeritus of political science and public administration, and founder of the School for Public Affairs, who passed away on January 29.

Faculty, staff, alumni, and students were invited to attend the following events:

• A memorial service at 3 p.m. in the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel that paid tribute and commemorated Hauptmann's lasting impact on the individuals he touched and the University.

• A reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the McCoy Meetin' House that allowed attendees to remember and reconnect.

• The Dr. Jerzy Hauptmann Distinguished Guest Lecture at 7 p.m. in the Jenkin and Barbara David Theatre in Alumni Hall thatl featured speaker Lawrence J. Korb, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress and a senior advisor to the Center for Defense Information. This annual lecture, now in its 16th year, epitomized the vision Hauptmann championed to promote global academic interconnectivity.
