The U.S. News and World Report recently ranked Park University as the second largest Online degree-granting program in the United States. According the magazine’s E-Learning Guide, 40,000 students enrolled in Online classes at Park University during the 2004-2005 academic year. Park’s long history of providing education in a variety of formats began in 1972 with the establishment of the first distance learning program—the Military Resident Center System, later renamed the School for Extended Learning in 1989. It served to provide degree completion opportunities primarily to students in the military and to non-traditional students in an accelerated eight-week term format. In 1996, Park established a distance learning program as an extension of the extended learning program. The classes included a combination of CD-ROM, interactive video and Online formats. The Online format proved to be most successful and, as a result, Park created its School for Online Learning (SOL). Today, Park University has students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate degree programs at 42 campuses located in 21 states and Online at www.park.edu. Students can complete their degrees entirely Online, face-to-face, or a combination of both formats. According to the Carnegie Classification, Park University ranks as a Master College/University with smaller programs for 2005, with data based on the Academic Year 2003-2004. 7. Score requirements vary upon the program; these scores are evaluated upon application, along with other admissions criteria. The scores are sound indicators of potential graduate school performance. member of Park University receives an ID card. The student ID card should be
carried at all times for use at the Park University library, campus athletic
events, the Office of the Registrar, the Cashier’s Office, and other offices,
where identification may be needed. Photo ID pictures in Parkville will be taken
in the Student Assistance Center (1st floor Norrington). Contact the
Student Assistance Center at 816-584-6388 for further information. 25. The parking garage is located at 910 Walnut, Kansas City, MO 64105. To view a map of the immediate area of the parking garage downtown, click here. 26. No, currently, you do not need to pay any fee for parking. 27. If you lost your ID card, contact
the office where you received it and apply for a new one. There is a replacement
fee of $10.00. 28. Each student, faculty and staff member of Park University receives and ID number with their ID card. This number is unique to you and your login and username for OPEN, PirateMail and ParkOnline. 29. Using the Online Park Enrollment Network (OPEN), students can · Review their schedule · Access their academic record · Run a degree audit · Register for courses · Check financial aid · Pay tuition online Please note: Students are advised to consult with their advisor or Campus Center Director before registering for classes. Faculty Advisors, Office of the Registrar staff, Student Support/Services Coordinators, or the Campus Center Director will also be available to help with registration. 30. How to Use OPEN a. Obtain login (ID) and password (PIN) from the Gradute School Office (a photo ID must be presented), or contact the Help Desk at (800) 927-3024 during the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. CST/CTD, Monday through Friday. b. Point the web browser to http://www.park.edu, click on “Student Information”, and click on “OPEN Login”. c. Click on “Student On-Line Access”. d. Enter student login and password, and then click on OK. e. At the bottom of the page are the Current Option Settings. PLEASE MAKE SURE THE OPTIONS ARE SET CORRECTLY. The program is “GRAD.” The current session is either FPP for Fall 16-week course; F1P for Fall I 8-week course; F2P for Fall II 8-week course;SPP for Spring 16-week course; S1P for Spring I 8-week course; S2P for Spring II 8-week course; U3P for Summer 2-week course; ULP for Summer 4-week course; or U1P for Summer 8-week course. The year is the current year. Please note: OPEN allows students to see data for one term at a time, so students will have to update their current option settings as needed. Click on “Set_Options”, then select the appropriate term from the list. Hint: If the course you want is not on the registration list, make sure that the correct term has been selected. f. Click once on any option – to view degree audit, view transcript, view personal information, view financial aid, view schedule, or view the course catalog for specified session chosen. g. Any screen can be printed. It is recommended that the student print his/her degree audit before visiting his/her advisor. h. Clicking once on the “MENU” button will take the student back to the previous menu. The student can receive the same result by clicking on the “BACK” button on the browser. i. After visiting the advisor and receiving clearance to register, click on “REGISTRATION.” Enter the course number (All capital letters, no spaces), e.g., PA511. In the section box, enter the section code listed in the schedule. If the student does not know the course number or section number, click on the appropriate “?” box and a listing of all the courses for the specified session will appear, if the student knows the prefix, i.e., “ED”, then click on the “?” box and all the available “ED” courses for the specified session and year will be listed. Click on the circle by the course desired and then click on “SELECT”. j. Click on “ADD” and the course will appear and state that it has been added. If the student has not met pre-requisites, or if a class is full, the class will not be added, and the student must visit with the Program Director from their major area. k. Continue adding all classes in the same manner. If the student makes a mistake after adding a course, click on the circle by the course number, and then click on the “DROP” button. l. Confirmation (how the student will pay for the class(es)), is five working days prior to the beginning of each semester/term. Confirmation may be done in the Office of Graduate Studies or at any time after the student has registered for classes. Those students confirming by credit card may do so through OPEN. m. When the student has completed viewing personal information, “EXIT” the browser to insure the privacy and security of personal information. n. If the advisor has not cleared the student for registration, the “REGISTRATION” option will not appear on the screen. o. The use of this process does NOT constitute automatic confirmation. THE USE OF A STUDENT USER ID AND PASSWORD TO ACCESS THE COMPUTER SYSTEM IS THE EQUIVALENT OF A LEGAL SIGNATURE AND CREATES THE SAME OBLIGATIONS FOR THE STUDENT. THE STUDENT WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY AND ALL FUTURE REGISTRATION(S) BY ACCESSING THE COMPUTER WITH THE ASSIGNED ID NUMBER. ALL TRANSACTIONS ON THE COMPUTER SYSTEM CONSTITUTE OFFICIAL RECORDS RECOGNIZED BY THE INSTITUTION. ALL APPEAL DECISIONS RELATED TO POLICY OR PROCEDURES WILL BE BASED ON THE COMPUTER SYSTEM TRANSACTION RECORDS. 31. PirateMail addresses typically follow this format: firstname.lastname@pirate.park.edu. To find the student’s email address, click on the “Compose” button. The “From” field will display the student’s email address. (Example: John Doe’s email address would be: john.doe@pirate.park.edu.) Please note that email addresses are not case sensitive. 32. PirateMail is located at https://pirate.park.edu. PirateMail currently does NOT support connectivity via Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape Composer or any other 3rd party e-mail client. 33. PirateMail is IMP: the Internet Mail Program, an email service to all students, full-time and adjunct faculty, and staff at Park University, using the following email address: firstname.lastname@pirate.park.edu.
Park email is an email service available to full-time faculty and staff, based on MS Outlook. Email addresses usually are: firstname.lastname@park.edu. Full-time faculty and staff get both services, PirateMail and MS Outlook, and may forward their PriateMail account to their MS Outlook account. 34. Within 48 hours of registering in the first course, students are granted access to eCollege. This system provides eClassroom - a virtual classroom for online courses, and eCompanion - an online supplement for face-to-face courses. Additionally, this can be used as a homepage and has links to MBS Bookstore, PirateMail, and OPEN. It is a good idea to test the computer system and explore eCollege before starting an online course. Students are expected to be prepared and ready to work on the first day of the term. To login, students need their username and password. The username is the student’s Park ID number (six digits): e.g. 123456. To obtain password information, please contact the Graduate School at (816) 842-6182 ext. 5525, or the Help Desk at (800) 927-3024 during the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. CST/CTD, Monday through Friday. 35.
