Management of Information Systems

The Master of Public Affairs degree with the Management of Information Systems concentration prepares for careers in organizations across all sectors, including different levels of government and business firms, and leadership in non-profit organizations. This concentration also appeals to those interested in enhancing skills that accompany increased competence in information systems and the managerial/organizational challenges and issues posed by information technology.

This concentration is also available as part of the Master's in Business Administration (MBA) degree at Park University.

Students who complete this emphasis will be prepared to:

  • Describe and apply the core concepts and principles of managing organizational data resources.
  • Use software engineering methods and tools to successfully lead a team in development of an information system.
  • Analyze an organization's security level in regard to networks, information systems, communications and online transactions in order to provide technological solutions and policies to minimize threats and risks to an organization.
  • Manage the projects and changes in organizations resulting from introducing or revising information systems.
  • Communicate effectively, ethically, and professionally in a team environment.

MPA Required Core Courses:15 hrs.

Management of Information Services

Course Requirements:  15 hrs.

Three concentration theory courses: 15 hrs.
1.

Computer Network and Telecommunications Systems (IS 603)

3 hrs.
2. Data Management (IS 605) 3 hrs.
3. Systems Engineering Planning and control (IS 610) 3 hrs.
4.

Computer Security, Risk Management and Control (IS 620) *

3 hrs.
5. Project and Change Management (IS 640) 3 hrs.
*Successful completion of Computer Network and Telecommunications Systems (IS 603) or Computer Networking (CS 365) is required before enrolling in IS 620.

Cross-Sector Courses from outside the concentration; may include courses from any graduate program**: 6 hrs.

1. Emerging Topics in Public Affairs (PA 503) 3 hrs.
2.

Independent Study in Public Affairs (PA 504)

1-3 hrs.
3. International Service-Learning Experience (ISLE) (PA 506) 1 hr.
4. Workshop on Current Issues in Public Affairs (PA 507) 1-3 hrs.
**May require permission of the graduate program.
