Master of Music in Piano/String Performance

Available Only On Campus in Parkville

The Master of Music degree program is an advanced course of study for musicians who hold a bachelor’s degree and are seeking careers as professional musicians.

Admission Requirements

In addition to the general rules that are applicable for admission to the Graduate School at Park University, specific admission requirements are:

  • Bachelor of Music or related undergraduate degree from a U. S. institution or an equivalent bachelor's degree from an accredited foreign institution of higher education with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • An audition before the music faculty. In approved situations a recording may be submitted in lieu of a live audition.
  • Each applicant must furnish a complete list of repertoire and recital history at the time of application.

MASTER OF MUSIC IN PIANO PERFORMANCE
36 credit hours - Two Year Program

  • Applied lessons and recitals - MU 540, 541, 542, 543,
    12 credits total
    3 credits each semester
    2 recitals-one each in years 1 and 2
  • Chamber Music - MU 546, 547, 548, 549 
    4 credits total  
    (1 credit each semester)
  • Performance Class - MU 551, 552, 553, 554
    4 credits total
    (1 credit each semester) 
  • Collaboration - MU 556, 557, 558, 559
    8 credits total 
    (2 credits each semester)
  • Approved Electives - 8 credits total

MASTER OF MUSIC IN STRING PERFORMANCE
Violin, Viola and Cello - Two Year Program

  • Applied lessons and recitals - MU 540, 541, 542, 543
    12 credits total
    3 credits each semester,
    2 recitals-one each in years 1 and 2
  • Chamber Music - MU 546, 547, 548, 549
    4 credits total
    (1 credit each semester)
  • Orchestra - MU 565, 566, 567, 568
    4 credits total 
    (1 credit each semester)
  • Orchestral Repertoire - MU 575, 576, 577, 578
    4 credits total
    (1 credit each semester)
  • Performance Class - MU 551, 552, 553, 554
    4 credits  total
    (1 credit each semester) 
  • Approved Electives  - 8 credits

All students entering the Master of Music degree program must take a Theory Competency
Test administered by the department. If a student does not pass this test they will be assigned to the appropriate theory class.
