Current Initiatives

The International Center for Civic Engagement is engaged in several activities:

In 2008, the Center:

  • launched a new book discussion series;
  • co-sponsored "Vital Conversations: John Brown" on April 16;
  • hosted a town hall meeting featuring MO State Rep. Jason Grill on July 16;
  • hosted a workforce housing community discussion on August 20;
  • launched a 2008 general election information web site;
  • co-sponsored nuclear weapons policy programs on September 18 and 19;
  • convened a visit of administrators from Mexico on September 26; and
  • hosted a presentation by Amy Holman, Deputy Director of the Bilateral Trade Office in the Bureau of Economic, Energy and Business Affairs of the State Department on October 10.

In 2009, the Center has/will:

  • hosted a U.S. Presidential Inauguration program on January 20;
  • co-sponsored an interfaith dialogue on February 4; and
  • hosted an Entrepreneurial Exchange II forum on May 8.

ICCE Director Erik Bergrud:

In 2009, Bergrud:

  • appeared on KSHB Channel 41 as part of a February 23 interview regarding the Access Missouri scholarship program;
  • served on a March 10 UPS World Trade Center Book Club panel discussion on Fareed Zakaria's The Post-American World;
  • delivered three presentations at the 2009 American Society for Public Administration Annual Conference;
  • delivered presentations to Park Honors classes and a Park BPA class;
  • delivered a presentation titled "Civic Engagement and Park University" at an April 9 Northland EXCEL class; and
  • delivered an address to the Spring 2009 Park Hauptmann School graduates on May 9.
