Michael Kary Edmond
Born: Kosrae (the island of the sleeping lady)

Michael describes his community:

The natural beauty that surrounds my community just makes it the best to live in. We have a mountain called a sleeping lady, it is the highest point in Kosrae.  When you are on top of it you see the whole Micronesia. The vegetation is always green. The houses are made from a special tree that we have in the jungle, where it is cut and put into the sea water for two months for it to be strong and long lasting. For fun we usually go hike the mountain, fish, canoe and sometimes go to a club and dance our traditional dance. Living in an island is the best thing ever because I love nature a lot. We believe in our culture and practice it more. We have our traditional dance festival.  I miss my community, but I also enjoy this experience of being in the States at Park University where you get to meet lots of different people from around the globe. Being in a place where everyone’s culture is appreciated is the best thing ever.
