Akinori Nakashima
Born: Kagoshima
Akinori describes his community:
While other Japanese cities are moving towards aging society coupled with
declining birth rate, my hometown is still doing well. It is located between the
airport and the city of Kagoshima prefecture. Most people move to my hometown
because of its good geographic conditions. People consider my town as a place
with a warm atmosphere because people are very warm loving and very polite.
Looking at the infrastructure, houses are mainly build without wood, some
reinforced concrete, and some are prefabricated construction.
Kagoshima is a very quiet and peaceful place with beautiful landmarks. It has
community centers and community halls where you will find most young people
practice the Japanese traditional drums called “Taiko”. During the month of June
the whole community will gather together for our Japanese June festival where
people do the drum performance and dance down the streets. During this time the
whole community celebrates with joy and unity.
Young people involve themselves mostly in activities that are going on within
their schools. Then during the weekend they either go to shopping malls and shop
until they drop, movie theaters, and train stations to hang out, coffee shops,
the beach, and also spend much time at the city library.
