Gasim Mohamed
Born: Khartoum
Gasim describes his hometown:
I
was born and raised in the capital city of Sudan. Compared to the other areas of
Sudan, my community is the most privileged one according to my country's
situation. While coming into Khartoum you cross the beautiful White Nile. Most
of the houses are made out of mud. As it is one of the biggest cities, you will
find a lot of traffic jams, with cars moving in and out of the city center. Most
people use animals as means of transportation, such as: donkeys, horses and
camels. In terms of development, my city has some hotels, shopping malls,
beautiful pyramids, and the city museum.
Most people generally work hard for living. Most men work for their families,
women stay in to do the household chores, while the children go to school from
Monday to Sunday except for Friday. Friday is the only day off for most people
as most meet in mosques to worship Allah. We have five praying sessions on
Friday.
While young people spend most of their time in school and praying, they have
time to have fun as well. They are involved in sporting activities like track
and soccer. As we all know, there is a lot that needs to be done about the
situation in my country!
