Park Student Profile
Atef Soudani
Born: Sfax
Atef tells us about his community:
I was born and raised in Sfax, which is the second biggest city in Tunisia. Sfax
is a fishing port with a warm Mediterranean climate and long sunny day. As
much as its infrastructure is more like any other city, you will find apartment
houses, single regular houses and double story buildings.
There are lots of factories around my community where most of the most of the
community members spend most of their time working hard trying to make a living
for their families. The level of unemployment has increased the last few years.
The city is very busy and always packed of cars and people during rush hour
time, whereby people are on their way to work and young people on their way to
school. We have all sorts of public transport systems, but most people own
motorcycles which they use more than cars, we have mini taxes and bus services.
During the weekends you find people all over the city, some go and watch soccer
games and volleyball. Some go to the city either to do some shopping, some go to
hang out at coffee shops, some go watch movies, or just hang out on the beach.
Our religion has lots on influence on anything that we do in my community, even
the way that people behave - they are very respectful and very polite. You
will not find people passing each other on the streets and not actually stand
and greet each other. My community is a community where almost everybody knows
one another around the neighborhood.
The beauty of nature like the sea and ever green environment, the warm ocean,
and our beautiful culture attracts lots of visitors to my city. More needs
to be done, because the standard of living is very high which causes lots of
people to move out of the country and look for better opportunities in other
places. My plan is to get my degree and move back home and try to implement
every skill I have learned at Park University.
