Born in 1978 into the family of brilliant musicians, Victoria
Korchinskaya-Kogan represents a third generation of outstanding musical
talents. She carries on rich family traditions of her celebrated
grandfather – legendary Leonid Kogan, her grandmother – exquisitely
refined violinist Yelizaveta Gilels, her uncle – world class violinist
and renowned conductor Pavel Kogan, currently with the Utah Symphony
Orchestra at Salt Lake City, and her mother – superbly masterful pianist
Nina Kogan.
Victoria first took up piano lessons when she was five, and at the age
of seven she was already enrolled at the Central Musical School under
the Moscow Conservatory. In 1995, right after finishing that school, she
was admitted to the prestigious Moscow Conservatory at the age of 11.
Her first teacher there was the celebrated Professor L.Vlasenko. After
his death in 1996, Victoria joined the class of the eminent Professor S.Dorenski, and now her teacher is Professor Pavel Nersessian.
A child prodigy, Victoria Korchinskaya-Kogan gave her first public
performance at age 8. Since she turned 13, she has embarked on an
intensive concert activity touring many Russian cities and performing at
major concert halls in Europe and North America where staged solo
recitals and played with many world-class orchestras.
In 1991, Victoria Korchinskaya-Kogan won the First Prize at the
Stravinski International Competition for Young Musicians in the United
States, a major forum for encouraging young pianistic talent.
In 1992, when Victoria was only 14 she placed fourth at the First
Chaikovski International Competition for Young Musicians in Moscow,
Russia.
And in 1998, Victoria became a laureate at the full-scale 11th
Chaikovski Competition in Moscow.
At the age of 21, Victoria Korchinskaya-Kogan is an accomplished
performer whose captivating finesse, elegantly refined style and
uniquely profound interpretation of best classical pieces truly make her
a standout among the world’s leading young musicians.
“Victoria Korchinskaya-Kogan is, in my opinion, an undoubtedly highly talented pianist with excellent piano technique and outstanding musicality.”
Mikhail Pletnev
