The objective of the music curriculum is to develop within students excellence in creating, performing, and appreciating music.

The program's course offerings provide the opportunity to:

  • Pursue careers in music.
  • Develop one's perception of the intrinsic aesthetic values within musical expression.
  • Understand the interrelatedness of music to culture.
  • Prepare for service in local and global community.
  • Relate music to life-long learning.

The program serves the total student body by providing ensembles, lessons, and courses, which are open to all students.

Undergraduate Artist Certificate in Music Performance

Two Year Program (Applied emphasis in Piano, Violin, Viola or Cello)

The undergraduate certificate program in music performance is designed for students who wish to pursue a non-degree course of study concentrating almost exclusively on performance. Minimum undergraduate credits required for the certificate are 48. In addition to the general rules that are applicable for admission to the undergraduate program at Park University, specific admission requirements are:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • An audition before the music faculty. In approved situations, a recording may be submitted in lieu of a live audition.

BM & UG cert audition requirements:

Piano

  • One Prelude and Fugue from the Well-Tempered Clavier by J. S. Bach
  • One complete sonata by Mozart, Haydn or Beethoven
  • One virtuoso etude by F. Chopin (except numbers 3, 6, 9, 13, 14, or 19)
  • One work of the applicant's choice

Strings

  • Two contrasting movements of unaccompanied Bach
  • One movement of a standard concerto
  • One etude
