The Office of Student Life and the Office of International Education and Study Abroad are co-sponsoring a new annual alternative spring break abroad. For 2011, that destination is Cochabamba, Bolivia, with Amizade Global Service Learning and Volunteer Programs.

Students will stay at the Casa de Retiros, or Retreat Center, in Vinto, just outside Cochabamba.

Cochabamba is the third largest city in Bolivia. They will work at CEOLI, a community center helping low-income children with disabilities. They will be doing tutoring or helping with other projects around the center.

The group will have time to do some sightseeing as well as visit La Cancha, the largest open-air market in South America.

Please submit the online application to indicate your interest in the program. If you are accepted, you will be required to submit a deposit to secure your spot in the program within seven days.

As no courses are required in conjunction with this program, financial aid is not available. The Office of Student Life will be assisting accepted applicants with fundraising opportunities.

For more information, please contact Angie Peterson, (816) 584-6510 or Caroline Heckman, (816) 584- 6595. You can find more information on Amizade's Bolivia program in their volunteer handbook.
