The Office of International Education and Study Abroad and the Office of Student Life are co-sponsoring an alternative spring break for Park University nursing students to Pananatic, Guatemala with Heart to Heart International. Park nursing students who are committed to civic engagement, serving others and making a difference are invited to apply.

Medical volunteers will provide primary helath care to families of the community of Patanatic and surrounding areases in collaboration with the HHI clinic medical team. Most families have no medical history available. General heath assessments will also be part of the volunteer work. Non-medical volunteers will support the educational activities of the water sanitation, and hygiene program that includes: installing water filters, cooking stoves, latrines, monitoring the use and operation of the filter at the home of the families, participating in de-worming campaigns, reforestation and other activities at the schools.

Please complete both the Park University and Heart to Heart International application packets. You may complete the application materials, save them and e-mail them as attachments to apeterson@park.edu. You can fax them to (816) 505-5478. You can also drop them off in Herr House, room 300, 301 or 302 on the Parkville campus.

As no courses are required in conjunction with this program, financial aid is not available for students. The sponsoring offices will be assisting accepted applicants with fundraising opportunities.
