International Career Day

Description:

International Career Day is an event that brings local and international employers to Park University to network with and recruit students. Lectures from successful business people are set so students can hear their experience and ask them question. The various purposes of Career Day include:

  • Providing a forum in which students can explore career options.
  • Establishing valuable contacts in the employment community.
  • Learning about different occupations and career paths.
  • Learning about possible openings in organizations.

Goals:

  1. To teach students to dress professionally-First impressions are critical since you will only be speaking to employer representatives for a few minutes.
    • Look neat, clean, professional
    • Do not wear jeans, t-shirts, wrinkled clothes, sneakers or hats
    • Possibilities include a suit, tie, shirt and slacks; blazer with skirt or dress
  2. To create a good resume.
    • Use good quality white paper
    • Make sure there are no typos
    • Have it critiqued at Career Services
  3. To familiarize students with the employers-a list of participating employers is given by the office of Career Services (Layne Prenger), usually available a week prior to the career day.
  4. To teach students how to market themselves-Prepare a 60-second introduction: major, year in school, full-time job or internship, career interests, work experience, campus activities and strengths.
  5. To teach students how to approach employer representatives with confidence.
